2009 German Autofest Oct 3&4
#21

well, it looks like more people are in line for sunday - we'll just have to work that out with a couple of folks

the concours usually has nicer cars than the people's thing on saturday, so regardless of interest in the swap meet, this will still be a hoot

anybody needing to crash at my place on saturday night, let me know asap so i can make those arrangements

the route planned is:

from my house, 73 north to 405 north
10 west to 1 north
1 north to 101 north via Rice Ave
exit California St and turn left
right onto Harbour

Ventura County Fairgrounds - 10 Harbour Blvd

total trip time approx 2 hours 20 minutes (122 miles)

departure from my house at 5:30
approximate pass by corner of Sunset Blvd and PCH at 6:35
approximate pass by pepperdine at 6:55
arrival at Ventura County Fairgrounds at 7:45

i don't have any good pass-by points for between my house and santa monica - if you plan to hook up with us there, let me know and maybe we can figure something out

i would plan to be at least 15 minutes EARLY at any of the pass-by points - we will not be stopping for anything, so i highly recommend that you be actually ON THE ROUTE where you can see us pass by

a good spot for the santa monica pass-by would be the Vons parking lot - a good spot for the malibu pass-by would be on the east side of PCH right in front of pepperdine - after that, just park along PCH and wait for us to pass you by

i will have my cell phone on for those of you who have the number - i will also have my office line forwarded to it

I am going to have to pass on Sunday.

It's not likely I'll go on Saturday either.

Let me know how it turns out.

Flash,

Thanks for putting this together, as usual. What a great drive up the PCH this morning! It's amazing how beautiful LA can be at sunrise. Not sure the show was worth it at the end of the drive, however. It looked like it might have been picking up as I was leaving though. Hopefully the show turns back into the show it used to be with the new owners/management.

It's nice to get to know more of you guys at these events. Jeff, get that car running for the next event, will ya?!

Thanks to the 968 guys for making such a long drive for a so-so show. I haven't seen that many 968's live at one location. The show did start picking up, then the very cold wind hit and I couldn't stand it any longer. The show has dwindled so much, it probably would be a good one day show, but there's just not enough cars to justify splitting into two days.
To add insult to injury, in the concours section, the wind picked up and the wind blew apart a flag pole, and that pole dropped from 30 feet onto a brand new grey turbo. Felt sorry for the owner.

i too was disappointed - i was led to believe there would be a lot more there than we saw - still, i had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the drive up, which was enough to justify it to me (the drive back not so much - too much traffic in west l.a.)

i've always felt that it should be a one day show - the remote location makes it too hard to do two days without a hotel, and not many want to do that

hopefully the new promoter can figure it out and turn it into a success - adding an autocross would help bring in the racers and the vendors of those kinds of parts

turbo - bummer - i guess sometimes "pole position" isn't a good thing

forcing myself not to smile, because of the misfortune behind it, but can't help it - too funny of a comment to ignore

As for the autofest itself - probably last time for me there; I don't know if Saturday was any better but they should pack it up and close up shop ( whatever there is of it ) .

Wow, my car looks great at 30 feet! I looked at Flash's engine compartment and decided to keep mine shut.

Yeah, Bob's engine compartment almost outblings mine now... Well, I said " almost "

And it's squeaky clean, which explains all those badly worn toothbrushes in his garage..
