The mileage is 255,360. My son and I bought the car with 235,000 miles about three years ago. I bought the car running and in reasonable good condition from a gentleman from Maryland.
I bought the car as a way to expend time with my son as he was about to start college. I restore old motorcycles and an old car here and there as a hobby. He never got much interested to hang around with me. Since the Porsche was his he got in the mood to work on the project and we expend a number of days together working on the car. He is now 20 and needs a car that isn't expensive to maintain and more practical since he is leaving us soon.
I have a lot of pictures of all that we did to the car. I posted some pictures and movies here https://www.flickr.com/photos/71875191@N...503834972/.
We opened the engine to replace what was needed since the car had such high mileage. We replaced rings, bearings and a bunch of other small parts. The cylinders and pistons are in perfect condition as are all the other journal surfaces. I rebuilt a couple other 944 engines in the past and wasn't surprised. Unless they are abused the engines on these cars last forever. The same can't be said about suspension and interior as most of you know.
There was some oil leaks on the front of the engine that we eliminated with the rebuild. We still have a small leak from the rear main shaft seal. I replaced the seal during the rebuild but I guess I either didn't seat it properly or ripped the lip of the seal. I bought another seal and this was on my todo list. Aside of this small leak the engine is absolutely perfect in every single aspect.
We replaced the filter on the tiptronic transmission and replaced the fluid. We also replaced a few small parts from the tiptronic that didn't look good when we removed the transmission for inspection. The transmission works fine either on automatic or tiptronic mode.
Bellow is a list of what we did and what is pending. I have the receipts for most of the parts from the various vendors I used (Pelican Parts, Auto Atlanta, Vertex and Paragon).
Here is what was replaced on the car:
Small issues to be addressed by the new owner:
I'm asking US$7,000 for the car. It is located near Miami FL. The car goes with a whole bunch of parts that I bought but haven't had the chance to replace. I have one extra headlight, all the sunroof seals and a lot of other small parts.Zeca

Here is what was replaced on the car:
- New hydraulic steering pump, rack and hoses (absolutely no leaks).
- New alternator.
- New battery.
- Front seats recovered in pleather (vinyl). Not very happy with the fell of the material but they look new.
- New carpet rug set NOS from Porsche.
- New AC compressor from VERTEX.
- New wheel bearings and seals in the front rotors.
- All the rubber bushing in the front and rear suspension have been replaced.
- The engine was rebuilt with the following replaced:
- Water pump.
- All belts.
- All belt rollers and bearings.
- Variocam chain.
- Variocam pads.
- Rings.
- All bearings.
- All bolts required to be replace during rebuilt.
- Gaskets and seals.
- Some of the hoses.
- Spark plugs
- Fuel filter
- Air filter
- Oil filter
- Spark plug cables
- Distributor cap and rotor
- Spark plugs
- The valve guides have been replaced and the valves reseated by a professional shop.
- Tires.
- Brake pads.
- Brake rotors.
- New luggage compartment cover.
- New front lower arms
- All the rubber on the front and rear suspension was replaced with new items from Porsche.
- Engine mounts are the original hydraulic ones from Porsche. Both replaced.
- The only rubber seal that wasn't replaced on the car was the right hand side door. All the other seals are new from Porsche.
- Some parts have been painted non-original colors (red brake calipers, yellow suspension).
- The front seats have been replaced with pleather (originally leather)(rear seats are still original)
- The stereo receiver has been updated for use with USB, iPhone/iPod, Bluetooth and has an auxiliary input.
Small issues to be addressed by the new owner:
- The cruise control isn't working.
- The ABS light comes on once-a-while. Some days will be on always, some days will not come on. I traced the problem to the left rear wheel sensor. I haven't replaced the sensor yet.
- The AC compressor is brand new but the belt makes some noise when the car is cold. The AC works perfectly and the car gets really cold even down here in Miami.
- Rear windshield wiper isn't working. The wire was cut at some point. I haven't had the time to fix.
- Fuel gauge occasionally doesn't work correctly (shows a full tank).
- There are some small chips on the paint here and there. Nothing major just the usual road tiny chip marks. The exception is the rear right quarter where there is a couple scratches that have been repainted with a brush. They are an eye sore up close. They happened after we sent the car for repaint of some scratches on the left front fender and lower valance and I was now about to send the car again to be painted.
- The right passenger door isn't opening from the outside. The trigger apparently broke. The part is cheap ($9) but the repair will required the removal of the door panel and since it happened after we decided to sell the car I didn't do anything.
- The ignition key sometimes will need to be backed a bit to make the acessory works. It is almost as if you passed the point. I havent addressed this issue as well and havent researched what is the issue. I suspect is the plastic piece that connects the mechanical key mechanism to the electrical ignition switch.
