1994 black Coupe with D1R supercharger
#1

Dropped in at Global Car Marketing in Salt Lake City today and saw this Coupe with a DR1 supercharger installed. It also has a strange red vinyl interior. It had ~96,000 miles, $14900. Paint was rough though.

It has been on ebay on and off a few times, once with a deadbeat buyer a believe. Interior is leather.

I will have to check it out again but it definitely felt like vinyl and the ad says leatherette. The color was just weird, too red.

Pretty sure the interior is leather. I've seen the car at Hershey. It was nice at the time. One could search the site as I think the previous owner posted the progress as he did it.

The red is totally rad. How could you not like that?

It just needs to be a couple of shades darker and then we could indeed calle it "rad" red. Right now it's a bit too much " in your face " red, so not sure how many people can warm up to that..

Redrum redrum. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! DS could you imagine color coordinating say your watch, belt and shoes to that interior? Or you could get a big hat with a feather to pimp your gals! Lol

it's an interesting car, but you really have to love red. i've seen it in person. it's RED!!!

i would definitely look very carefully at the maintenance records though. the previous owner did not necessarily pay attention to things like leaks and what they could do. he burned up a supercharger by ignoring a leak. he said he thought it was supposed to use up oil, and rather than call me to find out what was up, he just kept topping it up, but eventually ran it low and fried it. he got a new one and then sold the car. i would be concerned that this is how the rest of the car was maintained.

could be fine though. just give it a good going over.

p.s. - that car is only stage 1

I'd need to carry a bottle of Visine with me just to drive that car.

That being said if it passed a rigorous PPI then 15K is a great price for an SC with full leather interior.

Per my conversations with the previous owner it was originally a Black/Black car with partial leather. The Red interior (Vinyl & Carpet) was done in Lansing, Michigan by a company called Luna's Custom interiors at a reported cost of about $3500. It was for sale for a long time at a advertised price of $17,900 that was reduced to $15,000 before selling about a year ago.

It could be a good value if the engine is tight and doesn't have leaking valves, it wont make the kind of power you're expecting if it does. If memory serves me correctly the D1R SC install instructions state there is no specific gaurantee on power output based on a numebr of factors (engine condition being a large one). A test drive or PPI would go a long way. For me paint quality and cleanliness in general go a long way toward telling how somethings been taken care of. I like a clean engine bay when I'm looking at cars.

Well guys, I am going to buy that car! I am going to pay $14k for it. The red interior is what drew me to it. I love in your face colors on a car and that red with black is in your face. The last service was 2/2/12 at a cost of $3800. It was a very thorough service, belts, water pump, reseal of the engine and some other things.

I had a 90 944S2 Cab with 50k miles but some lady pulled out of strip mall and plowed into it and the insurance company totaled it. I was really pissed off because I had a appointment at Texas Performance Concept for a LS3 install. So I was looking for a replacement for that car and this is it. I am probably going to pull the SC off and put all the original stuff back on. This car will most likely end up with Steve at TPC before the end of the year!

not sure why you would pull off the SC. that's what makes the car work. that one is only stage 1, but with the stage 3 upgrade kit you can add quite a bit more torque.

an LS3 would be a mistake. the 968 is not like a 944 when it comes to that. the wiring alone is a nightmare. almost everything in the car goes through the ECU. those guys hack out the ECU and run standalone for the engine, but much of the rest of the car becomes dead. i have seen the hack job they do. it isn't pretty

on top of that, with the V8, the car drives like crap. the hydroboost sucks and the car doesn't feel like it's going to stop. the GM clutch is horrible and the entire drive train feels like it's going to rip the car apart. the gearing is all wrong too. gobs of torque, but that's where the good part ends. i am very glad i didn't go that route. i had the opportunity, and the budget to do it right, but it would have been a horrendous mistake.
