Car looks nice (of course pictures always look better than in person). Having said that, assuming that the turbo conversion is "factory" and that the rest of the car can handle it, it likely goes like stink. I did an analysis about 18 months ago to figure out what was a reasonable market value for a concurs quality low mileage 968. Went like this.
What current car is most like the 968? I ended up with a 987 Boxter/Coxster S.
What does a 987 with similar mileage cost? About $40K
Subtract $5K for fixing old, crusty seals, belts, etc.
Then you can decide if you want to discount because the car is 17 years old, or are willing to pay more because it is 17-years old. Personally I ended up liking the 968 a lot more than the 987 - just feels better under my arse.
So, the answer is.
$35K in 2011 dollars.
Then, if you want to make yourself feel good about the purchase figure out what this would have cost in 1998 and add the time value of money to it. You'll end up around $55K and you'll be convinced that you are getting a steal.
Fair Market Value? I agree that this is optimistic, even for such a strong offering. I would guess that they would let it go for $29 without blinking. Wait them out for a few months and they'll sell it for $25.
IMHO
