17inch 993 Cup (Cup 2)
#21

I finally found a 9 inch ET55 rear. It took two years after the wife busted the wheel. I found a replacement wheel. It has the 993 part number the 9 and 55 on either side of the valve stem and weighs pretty close to the same, at least on my bathroom scale. The color was a little off, so I had my other 3 painted to match. I haven't heard many good things about this outfit, but I'm happy with the wheel they got for me. It took 2 or 3 months after I ordered it. http://www.wheelsrims.net/porsche-inventory.html I paid 141.90 shipped.

I have the same size 993 Cups (17x7 front and 17x9) rear. I use 14mm spacers in front as it helps the handling. I think you can go 5-7mm without replacing the wheel studs.

who told you that? the repos are actually tougher than the OEM rims. at least the mille miglias are. the problem is that they are heavier. they are also slightly different visually.

Bob,

Personal experience. I've had two sets of Mille Miglias and my experience is if you breathe hard on them too hard they'll bend. I had to have 3 of them straightened out. I have never had any issue with my OEM wheels. I've spoken to many others with similar experiences as well. Have you owned the MM Cup repos?

interesting. i've seen the exact opposite. in fact, i've yet to see a miglia miglia that was bent. broken, yes, but not bent. the only bent ones i've seen are the OEM.

basic casting process says that more material is stronger. we already know that there is more material on the copies.

another thing to remember about cast wheels is that they are severely weakened if they bend. normally they break. it has been my experience that anybody who straightens a cast wheel will warn you that there is no guarantee that they will not break before you get home. i won't straighten one and keep it on the car. i'll only do it until i can find a replacement. it's no fun when a wheel shatters.

yes, i had a set of the MMs in the C2 Turbo model. bullet proof wheels. i did have to straighten and then ultimately replace an original 993 Cup though. at least 4 other guys here too. the lip is a lot thinner on the OEM.

i have yet to prove it, but i think they were all made at the same factory.

225/45x17 front and 255/40x17 rear. Good combo for the sporty street driving without going too harsh over the bumps.

Looks good Olaf, how do you like the ride quality? When I changed to 17's I replaced the 16" wheels which had old tires with new tires on the 17's which actually improved the ride.

93 Cup (Cup 2) looks better than the Schmalspeiches, though that of course is subjective. The only drawback in my opinion is weight - 7.5kg 16" Schmalspeiche vs 10.3 kg 17"93 Cup (93 Cup (Cup 2)).

Not sure why IPad keeps changing93 Cup (93 Cup (Cup 2)) into "93 Cup (93 Cup (Cup 2))". Edited text, reposted, still doesn't work.

The 17 inch is a little heavier than the 16 inch but not that much:

It's because the forum software messes it up. It will change what you type, and then it's not smart enough to not change it a second, third and fourth time if the post is edited.

There probably needs to be a rule added that will convert "( 9 3 C u p ( 9 3 C u p ( C u p 2 ) )" back into one instance of "9 3 C u p ( C u p 2 )".

the problem is arising from "93 Cup". there is no such thing as "93 Cup". it is 993 Cup.

i continue to add to the list of things that correct the wheel names so that it will always read "993 Cup (which is the correct name for the later 17" wheel for our car) and then parenthetically add "Cup 2" to provide for the colloquial misnomer that was attached to the wheel

the duplicating side effect has been a small problem, and i edit them as i find them, but i will add that one to the list and see if it helps

93 Stanley cup. 2nd World cup America's cup. Athletic cup. Oh, never mind, I'm just testing the forum software to see if it changes the cup references :-) ;-)

I am thinking about upgrading from the 16" to 993 17" wheels on my 93 coupe. Is it a straight swap, or is something else required?

Thanks in advance.
