Some of you have experienced problems logging in, and have gotten locked out. You only get 3 tries before that happens, so be careful when logging in.
First off, when that happens, you need to contact the administrator and let them know. There is no regular check system or notification process in place for us to know when that happens. We have no crystal ball, and it may be weeks before we find out otherwise.
There are a lot of security protocols in place, with more being added. It is an ever increasing problem to prevent spammers. We are constantly implementing new tools to lock them out. Some of these create difficulties with some users.
The system will automatically log you out if it is inactive. The cookies also expire after a while, requiring new cookies to be loaded. This happens automatically when you log in.
Here are some tips for minimizing problems:
Make sure you have "cookies" enabled.
If you are running Vista, make sure you have "allow new history" enabled.
If you are one of the few people still on AOL, do not log in through there. Go directly to a browser (Explorer, Safari, etc) and log in from there. AOL is known to have conflicts, and it is not likely they will be resolved.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but I think you will agree that it has been nice to be free of spam, and it is one of the things that makes this the absolute best 968 site around.

Just a point of clarification and reiteration, as there has been some criticism as a result of this happening, and someone thinking we did it on purpose. We have NOT locked anyone out. Anyone to whom this happened, we apologize for the inconvenience, but we have no way of knowing when it happens on any kind of a timely basis, and it is up to you to let us know. Then we can correct the situation.
Even if you are locked out, you can still send an email to the administrator via the link on the index page.

the link to the admin is on the page where you log in - down at the lower left where it says "contact the forums aministrator"

I am an AOL user, and find that if I go straight to the internet w/out using AOL, it works much better. That is, it seems to be a problem with AOL.

yes - there is a conflict between aol and the software for this site - no idea what it is - not likely to ever be resolved - aol has resigned itself to the niche of families and kids - that means heavy filtering, which unfortunately also means conflicts

AOL people still use this?
Flash, Perhaps you could make the admin button bigger so it is easily found?

unfortunately that is one of the template limitations, and not easily changed
the good news is that very few people have had problems, so it doesn't get used much - i am hoping that the tips included in this thread, as well as the tutorial, will help minimize the problems

we continue to have some members getting locked out on occasion - this is ALWAYS a settings problem on the user's end
DO NOT ATTEMPT A THIRD LOG-IN IF THE FIRST TWO FAILED
as a third failed attempt results in the account being locked, instead contact the administrator via the email link in the FAQ section on the HOME page (not the Index page) - click "HOME" - then click "FAQ" - then click the email link on that page - please include your screen name in the email
to prevent problems like this:
you MUST have cookies enabled
you must NOT be on AOL
if you are on vista, you MUST have new history enabled
further, each browser has its own security settings that could interfere with our software - you will have to go through those to insure there are no conflicts
our software does not work with all phone software either, and there is nothing we can do about that - the phones change faster than anybody can keep up
