I'm good to go although I may need to grab some study time. Finals on Friday the 22nd.

After the first of the year I noticed the cars handling was degrading and during a routine tire pressure I realized the the tires were worn down to the nubs. Installed new tires and I noticed the car was tram tracking all over the road and under certain circumstances would track properly in a curve. So I took the car in for alignment yesterday and we discovered the the right side castor block was complete deteriorated. Now that this has been replaced and the car aligned it actually wants to where I point it.

See you al in two weeks.

That would be a good thing...considering the route we're taking where having the car point a mere 3 feet away from where you want it leads to a 1000+ ft plunge into the ocean .. well, on the right hand side anyway.. rolleyes.gif

Which is where you'll be all the way South. That's why I prefer the Northern route. Gives me a lane's worth of screw up before I go swimming.

I just sent a "reminder" email to our NorCal group although I'm sure no one forgot about the event and I also printed plenty of directions/maps for both segments of the trip although I'm equally sure they won' t be needed insofar as we're all caravaning it ..

Mapquest indicates Gilroy to Morro Bay takes 3 hrs and 45 min - Given what we're driving and the way most of us drive, I'd usually say that's more like 1 hr and 45 min for us tongue.gif , but since we're taking the scenic, two lane coastal Hwy 1 I think a more leisurely pace is definitely called for, so it may indeed be 3 - 3 1/2 hrs .. mellow.gif At least I will not be at my normal maniac self because I truly want to enjoy the scenery this time. But I only promise to behave until we ALL get on 41 and 101 going to Paso, at which point the radar detector gets mounted higher up on the windshield wink.gif

Dam. mad.gif

The Audi is leaking antifreeze from somewhere and the exhaust hangers finally gave up today on a speed bump.

I'm out unless my dad lets me borrow the 911 or I miraculously get a check from SS.

I was sooo looking forward to passing Dan on Hwy 1 in a rust bucket. tongue.gif

Perhaps this was mentioned earlier on during this string, but I trust that we are all aware that the weekend of May 16-17 is the Paso Robles Wine Festival. This event takes place in the center of town at the town square and it is a huge draw. I would expect traffic to be very heavy in the immediate vicinity and I would also expect a lot of law enforcement presence as well. On the positive side, most of the wineries will be relatively uncrowded compared to a normal weekend.

I'm currently in Berlin, but I'll be back home just in time to attend -- not sure if I'll have a 968 in good driving shape, but I have a couple to choose from....

BTW, is anyone coming up from SoCal who will be able to take a large piece of cargo back to Flash's place? I'm thinking about delivering a convertible top with broken main bow (even though it would might mean that I'll have to drive a car with no top throughout the event.....)

weather update:

a toasty 92F is forecasted for both Sat and Sun . ( that's 33 C, for you guys from Europe and elsewhere who might be attending this Paso 968 event ..)

WHAT ?! rolleyes.gif

just keep in mind that night time temps will drop quite a bit, especially those of us staying on the coast where a refreshing low to mid 50s is expected

Ok, it looks like absent any mechanical glitches we'll have NINE-68s smile.gif from up here. And we're hoping for a 10th, confirmation pending on that one.. Not done yet - there could very well be one or even two additional 968s who might pull a surprise and either show up in Gilroy, or, take a different route down to Paso. That's how we roll baby ! wink.gif

Bob, what's the latest headcount from the lower half of the State ?

Not sure if I am included in that northern head count, but I will be there. I have hotel reservations at the cambria castle. Count me in for lunch/dinner!

Hopefully I don't have any snags. I just finished my suspension project. I will get the car aligned tomorrow, and bring it to the detail shop on Thursday. Will have it back Friday night just in time to shoot down Saturday morning. Fingers crossed.

I'm so jealous!. I can't believe that I have an event so close and of all weekends to have a customer conference! I'll be in sunny Tucson all weekend. I tried right up until today to time it out and even tried driving up the coast and flying to/from Santa Barbara or SLO. But, it didn't work out. You guys better take some good pics! I'm crossing my fingers that you won't keep all the good pics to yourself and will share them with those of us who are less fortunate...

Be Safe!

I hope to get some good pictures. I just got an awesome camera suction mount that will mount a camera on body panels, or on a window. http://www.filmtools...mera-mount.html If anyone decided to bring a video camera, we could get some pretty nice shots of the group driving. Any 5d mk2 owners by chance?

I will be bringing my digital camera gear. Canon 1ds MK3, 14mm 2.8L, 24-70 2.8L, 85 1.2L, 70-200 2.8L IS. Plus remote triggered flash units...etc.

I will post the pictures online.

now that the fires are under control and the roads are open again, just to bring the rendezvous points and times up to the front:

7:45 - 8:00 Starbucks Malibu (3900 Cross Creek Rd Malibu 90265)
9:20 - 9:45 HWY 154 Off Ramp (Calle Real) from HWY 101 (parking lot - corner of Calle Real Rd and Wye Rd)
11:45 - 12:00 Motel 6 parking lot - SW corner of HWY 1 (Cabrillo Hwy) and HWY 41 (Atascadero / Morro Rd)
1:00 at Tobin James

these times are firm - i would plan to arrive early to your point - we will not be hanging around beyond the indicated time, so if you are late, you need to catch up or make your way on your own

i will be handing out map packets at each rendezvous point

Updated forecast : 100 on Saturday and 102 on Sunday ohmy.gif That's it, we're changing the venue and date of this meet to a cooler timeframe, say... August 15 and 16 weekend in Death Valley, Ca.

PSA opportunity : stock up with plenty of water bottles & sunscreen !

At least those wine cellars we're touring are nice and cool, make sure you ask a million questions ' cause the longer we stay in there, the better wink.gif

I am going to die out there. My AC is not doing a thing right now. Did I mention I am from Alaska and I melt in the heat?

If I do melt, will there be a civilized discussion of who gets my car, or will everyone be running off with door panels and seats and whatever scraps they can fit in the trunk....hmm. I am guess the latter, a bunch of scavengers.
