btw, no speed runs on the way back; somewhat heavy traffic and darkness setting in, so we all behaved

this was a great event - i was truly amazed at the turnout - a lot of couples, and htis event really lends itself well to that - as anticipated, we had a couple of last minute cancellations, and some of the regulars didn't make it, but we still had a great turnout, and the largest yet for this event - we still had 20 people
it started out with a hiccup - all of the landlines went down friday afternoon, leaving me with only my cell phone - this presented itself as a problem because the front gate is connected to the house line - nobodycould get in - they also replaced the photo sensor on teh gate with in-ground wires - this meant that i could not jam the gate open - so, i had to keep running down the hill to let people in - lol - but, we got through it
everybody showed up by about 7:45 - not much time for anything (sorry some of you guys didn't get the tour of the house - next time) we hung out in the garage mahal for a few minutes, had some coffee, donuts and such, got through the introductions, and got out bang on time at 8 - we were 4 at that point
we took a rather circuitous route up the coast through pacific palisades - cal trans had ripped up the road along pch for about 4 miles, so we all got a chance to see how our dental work was - my apologies for that guys - i had no clue
finally getting through that, we were on our way to malibu where we met up with kris

from there we blasted on up pch through to oxnard, and then onto 101 up through santa barbara

we stopped at a rest stop about 20 miles north of santa barbara to unload some coffee - here we met up with tom and jared

jared literally stopped traffic with his car

off again and on our way
finally we got to paso robles - here we hooked up with the northern california contingent - i don't think women in northern california like 968 owners - it's that or northern california guys can't get a date - the norcal group showed up sans women - hmmmmmmm
after a few minutes of the typical gawking at the cars, we went off to lunch - once again the food at the crooked kilt was great - however, the waitress was clearly overwhelmed and let us know just how much - it seems that she wasn't the only one having issues - i seem to have miscounted or something at lunch, and can't account for a little over $100 - dang that newcastle - lol - oh well
snapped a shot after lunch while we were all still together, before some went on back home

because we took too long at lunch we had to skip bianchi (the first winery i had planned)
we got to eberle on time and was treated to a private tasting - then they took us on a tour of the caves, amidst the sounds of benedictine monk chants - here they told us about how the caves were made, and how they worked to help define the character of their wines - it was clear they were serious about their wine - we tasted some great wines - i discovered a couple that i had not tried before, and we brought some of those home with us and look forward to having them
then we were off to tobin james - this was a complete contrast to the sedate nature of eberle - here we were surrounded with a raucous group and rock and roll piped all over the grounds - this was a party - the other owner led us on a tour of their facility, and we got to taste some of the wines not yet bottled - this guy is a character - he is having entirely too much fun at his job - it spilled over to us, and we all enjoyed his humor
we snapped some pics out back - got most of the owners in this shot

968 forums rocks - renn-who?

then it was off to dinner - the owners of tobin james kicked out the public, closed up shop, and fired up the brick wood burning pizza oven - this was great - some fantastic pizzas - we sat there for hours, had great food, and drank some phenomenal wine - finally at about 9, people started heading on their way - some went home (crazy people) - some of us went off to hotels - we took off back to the coast to the moonstone inn, where we found out it is being torn down at the end of the summer - we really liked that place, and will now have to find another cute little tucked away spot - lol - i think we will have to make a couple of trips up there to do just that - woohoo!
a great day for me - i had an outstanding time - thanks again to everybody who joined in - i hope to do this every year, with ever increasing groups
time to go clean the car now

did you ever think that's by design, so as to allow the norcal guys more freedom to enjoy all that being out of town may have to offer ( in addition to wine and pizzas )

Of course it is by design, I got an extra case of wine in the car that I wouldn't have been able to bring back with a passenger!!! Seriously, my wife might attend one of these events one day, but she isn't a gear head so car talk doesn't capture her attention.
Great event, thank you Flash for organizing it. I stayed over in Cambria, when I left and hit Rt. 46, there was no traffic at all, everybody a Father's Day brunch I guess, anyway it was a real pleasure to blast up that road. I went to Tablas Creek Winery. I was the only one there for the better part of an hour, so I had a very productive visit, getting few tips on where I may be able to procure some grapes. By the way Vine Yard Rd, from Rt. 46 to Tablas Creek is really nice drive. Too narrow to be driven fast with some negative camber curves for good measure, but the scenery is first rate. I'll be back in the fall just to take that ride again.
Uneventful trip back home except for a minivan, SUV, rice rocket multiple crash and roll over in Gilroy that bogged down traffic flow.

Anyway, one additional comment.
Having spent considerable time admiring Bob's car (from the rear naturally) I have to comment that those insanely wide wheels and the camber truly do make the mid blue look 10 ft wide. Great ride.

Very nice pictures, your an artist!!!
I like the last shot in the series, especially if the pickem-up in the background can be photoshopped out.
