Well, I've always been interested in unique colors on the 968...

Back before I bought my Aventurine green, I was going to look at a Amethyst metallic M030. That never happened. Anyway, enough of the past.

I am interested in possibly getting a different 968. Don't get me wrong- I like my car (av green / classic grey), but I just don't love the color combo. I *think* I am at a stage now where I'd like to find a unique color. By unique color, I mean it has to be something other than the following:

No red
No black
No silver
No white
No midnight blue
No aven green
No amazon green (don't like it)

I really like Jeff's minty, the used to be a Wimbledon green one as well, Any shade of yellow would do. The lighter blues are also good. Purple - violet, amethyst, etc. are also good choices.

That all said, any leads anyone can provide are greatly appreciated. And yes, if I were to find one in a combo that I liked and the financial director approved, my aventuring green M030 would be up for sale.

Please keep in mind that I am in no dire rush or need to do this. Just putting out the feeler.

Thanks in advance.

Geez- I just re-read my post. I'm terrible lately with grammar and spelling!

Anyway- just wanted to add: Mechanical condition is critical. I would be looking for a mechanically sound vehicle that is up-to-date with the appropriate services. Mileage and cosmetics are secondary, as long as the car has been properly cared for.... Then again, I am not looking for a beater either!

Can't really swing a garage queen given recent prices I have seen for ultra-low mileage examples.

Track vehicles need not apply. Occasional DE/autocross OK as long as maintenance is current.

Preference would be for a 6 speed coupe.

Tips would be considered, I don't think I can swing a cab.

That pretty much guarantees I'll never find a different car... :P :)

Feel free to PM me or email me

Bio,
I'm glad you like my car.

Here's a shopping list for you with all of the factory 968 colors (color to sample not included). I have the counts on cabs I've spotted in the registry. To give you an idea what you are up against, 85% of the cabs that I have registered (655 now) are in the colors you don't want. 63% are black/white/red.
Good luck.
Jeff

Speaking of unique 968 colors, while at my local Home Depot I saw a 968 Cab painted in that Metallic Burnt Orange that is a current favorite of the Rice Rocket Tuner Set here in the East Bay. The car had a gray or badly faded black top and a black interior. Has anyone else seen this car? Didn't wait around for the owner as it was raining pretty hard at the time.

Mine Car is exactly that Coral Red. Was one of the reasons why I purchased the car. There was other on sale, which was common dark blue, and in very good condition and low mileage, but this special red color was MUCH better looking. I like such cars that look individual. (not reasonable, I know).

The color is nice, it varies it's tone abit depending on the amount of light: In sunny days it's quite close to orange, but when it's cloudy the color is more reddish.

The color I saw was much more orange, similar to a factor color that was available on the Honda Element or what ever that boxy vehicle Honda sells is called. It definitely was coral red metallic which is a beautiful color.

I know you are talking about a 968, but is it like this color?
Not factory, I could not own this color, but it looks all right.

I will stick to the basic colors. In fact when the 968 goes, I will more than likely get a blk/blk or blk/red E46 M3

Jeff,

To the best of your knowledge, is Slate Gray Metallic a common or rare color? I am picking up a 92 Coupe with Gray Leather interior in a couple of weeks.

Rob,
It was nice speaking with you the other day. I am glad you found what you were looking for. Looks like it will be a great car.

Welcome to the forum. There lots more specific info here than on R.L..

Post some pics when you get it.

Patrick

Also check the 968 registry. You may find the more detailed info on production numbers and such. They have been tracking the colors and options for a couple years now.

Patrick,

Thanks, I will post the pix. But I did end up up sort of answering my own question by going to the registry. So far, there are only 8 Slate Gray that have registered. Lot of Black, White and Red ones.

Rob,
Yes, it is a rare color. Of the 655 cabs registered I have only 13 slate grey cabs so that's pretty rare. Also, as you can see from my list above, it was only a color only offered for 2 years.

I like the green cab Mark posted... But I'm not really a cab guy. These cars are unique enough for me without having to worry about cab top maintenance, in my opinion. With more and more parts becoming harder and harder to find, I just couldn't see myself picking up a cab. Besides, I like my music loud, and with a coupe, you can play your songs a little louder with less offense to those nearby...

Seriously though, yellow it at the top of the list, and is pretty much never going to happen on my budget. So scratch that idea. Other than yellow, I'm jonsing for a purple hue (amethyst, violet metallic, etc.). There was someon who had at least two purple '68s- wasn't his tag Purpoll or Purpol? I don't recall if he is on here or was just on 'net.
