Over the last few days I have been sorting and sifting through the countless pages of threads. First off, I want to say that it has been amazing to see how active the members have been over such a short period of time. There is a wealth of information here, and by the looks of it, everything has finally migrated here.

I have taken to reorganizing much of the information, so that searching will be easier, as well as archiving. I have also added a lot of new categories. None of the threads were lost. Many have been moved. Their new locations should make sense to everyone. There will be a continuing effort in this direction over time, further refining the libraries and organization of the material.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I think this will make the site a lot better for everyone, and hope that you do too.

I encourage everyone to avail themselves of the tools they have here. Check out the search tool. There is a LOT of great stuff here. I found a lot of stuff I wasn't aware was here as I went through it all, and you all know how often I am on the board.

Have fun and enjoy.

I can't say I'm a big fan of the new forum layout and was wondering what others think ?

Why is "clutch" a separate forum[?] Also, "driveline" &" drivetrain" and "tires" & "wheels" that are logical pairings, but are separate[??]. And, what goes in "Technical" now[?] I used to be able to quickly check a few key forums, but now it takes more time to file through all the individual technical forums.
I'm not familiar with the software, but I'd suggest a slightly different layout. Such as:

Drivetrain [parent topic]
- driveline [sub-topics]
- transaxle
- clutch
- suspension
- wheels & tires

Engine
- Mechanical
- DME & Electrical

Body
- Mechanial
- Electrical
- Interior

Performance
- racing
- modifications
- new "go-fast" products

This is not to step on anyone's toes - it's just a suggestion... :o

In one of the top bars on the right side there is a link to "View New Posts" this is what I use, it will put all the new posts together in one page so you don't have to go clicking thru everything.

the reason for the division is that there were 36 pages of threads in "technical" - that made it impossible to sort through - the sorting is for archival purposes - if you are looking for something specific, it's a LOT easier

i want tires and wheels separate - way too many threads, and i have other plans there too

driveline and drivetrain are not intended to be separate - initially i had "engine and drivetrain", but it was too huge - i have not yet sorted the things out of there and into the new categories - ultimately "drivetrain" will fall out of that category and into another

as for a separate one for clutch, that is because of the number of clutch threads - i just haven't sorted them into there yet

i appreciate the suggestions, and had plans to do more sifting and sorting - it was a daunting task, and i had to start somewhere

it's a work in progress, but it will be better in the end - give me a few more days

i've incorporated some of the suggestions mentioned above - getting there - still a bit more to sort through - the technical section had over 1500 threads - the "general" forum has about 1200

miles to go before i sleep........

keep the suggestions coming - i can't think of everything by myself

OK, I understand the goal here. Searching for info will probably be better as search usually delivers far too many items to be useful.

But do I really now have to scroll through 30+ categories to figure out the correct place to start a new post? This seems less than optimal. I recognize that many posts will fit under the 'General Porsche 968 Discussions" category, but this solution seems excessive.

if you are wondering what happened to the other thread, i merged the 2 conversations together

i understand the issues - there is no perfect solution - either we have a useless pile of great information, or we have a bit more effort required to post new threads

i'm actually trying to eliminate the "general" category altogether - that "catch-all" has proven to contain a ridiculous number of threads that were actually important, but got buried amongst others that people were apparently just unable to find the right home for in the first place

i wish the software had another layer - then you could have "technical and repair", and then subcategories below that - unfortunately, it only has 2 layers

without sorting it like this, the archive of information is useless - it would become as archaic and meaningless as rennlist - every thread there is new, purely because there is no easy way to go back to old threads, and they all end up getting buried

i have found a LOT of information that even i had not seen before - give it a chance, and i think you will come to appreciate the archiving

if you click the "lo-fi" version button, you can see how it quickly becomes more effective

In that case may I suggest perhaps making the 'View New Posts" link more prominent? I know it was a few months before I noticed it. Now it is the only way I ever enter the site. I wish I could just link to it.

I use firefox. I just dragged the URL down to my favorites bar under the navigation bar. Now I am at 1 click to new posts.

ok - i took to heart some of the suggestions and issues pointed out - i have now made some more changes that i think will resolve everybody's issues - it really has streamlined the front page

there are now sub-categories within the categories - you can access the categories in each subcategory directly and individually from the front page, or you can see a more detailed listing of them by clicking the subcategory itself

i am also working on getting more tools for the user

I've been lurking and watching the metamorphosis...I think it's coming along very nicely. The subforums should address most of the previous posters concerns and I like the new front page. I know this is a tedious task...keep on keepin' on and since I haven't yet said so, good luck to the three of you!
