I would pay $1500 for that headlight conversion in a heartbeat, I especially like how it looks factory by using a Porsche headlight assembly (993).

Here, here! The small lip from the 993 headlight assembly does not bother me at all. I really like the idea. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

For $1,500 that conversion sounds like they arnt using 993 Litronic headlights, but rather the regular halogen headlights. 993 Litronic headlights with the ballasts and all other hardware cost about $2,200 alone...not including any installation.

i wonder how close the beam is to being right? how adjustable?

that sticking up part would drive me nuts though - really turned me off on the purple car when i saw it in person - looks to me like somebody grafted 2 cars together - oh wait - that's what they did - lol

but then, i get nuts when i see things like dirty engines, mismatched fender gaps, twist wheels that are different left side to right side, boot covers installed wrong, yada yada

i think i need a drink now

i wonder why it seems that nobody has tried grafting 993 fenders onto the car?

time for another drink for just thinking about that

this is what really makes me wonder... I can't imagine that proper adjustment would be retained as the headlights have to be reclined a good bit.

yup - the flutes of the lens are very specific to a beam pattern and focus - i have not seen the beam at night, so i can't speak to the installation being one way or the other in that regard

How could that little bit sticking up bother you so much and the huge gaps around stock lights not bother you?
Seriously, I will let you know how they work, at the very least I will be loosing some weight and the "air brakes" at night!

lol - i wish i were - this stuff might not bug me so much

i think it's a symmetry thing - the centering of the light in the hole and all that - also the profile of the car - it really breaks up the line for me - the 3rd brake light did the same thing (remember i have a cab) - i eliminated that to clean up the line

it's either that or the fact that i drove an mgb so long, and the vertical lights drove me crazy - i added sebring covers to create a better airflow and smooth the lines - you've probably seen similar things on datsun z cars - much better

headlights are like jewelry for the car (that's why i replaced my perfectly functional ones with new ones, just because they were a bit coudy) - when they are perfect, they really compliment the car - when they aren't they look out of place - i am clearly nuts about this, becuase seeing a car with headlights that are out of adjustment really bugs me too - i frequently see cars with one light resting lower than the other, or off center in the hole

i went to great pains to adjust mine so that they sit up nearly flush with the bodywork, and are dead nuts centered in the hole - it made all the difference in the world to me though

i'm not saying i like the pop ups, just that i don't want to see any breaks in the lines, and symmetry and balance is everything

in my perfect world, they would be fixed and completely smooth and matching the body lines, blending seamlessly into the body

i am really starting to like the 996 lights on the photoshop car (actually that whole front end)

I actually like the pop up headlights. My reason to upgrade to fixed 993 litronics would be to give the car a more modern look. I would like a set of LED tailights as well if anyone made them. The slight edge sticking up is minimal compared to the gap the stock headlights leave. So that would actually bother me less.

Oh, and BTW....OEM Porsche twist wheels are different left to right from the factory. They all point the same direction, so when they are mounted...they point different directions.

ARK Motorsports (is that right) in japan were the only ones to make the 993 headlights work/fit right....by creating new fenders for the 968 designed for these lights. Would be nice if someone could get in touch with them....and see if they still have any of these...i could smell a group buy.

the gaps are actually pretty easy to manage - properly adjusted they are smaller than the gap between any of the body panels - mine will be all but gone soon

i know the oem wheels do that - that's what i mean - i think it looks dumb - the car looks like it doesn't know if it's coming or going - i'm not alone in this view either

those fenders were crazy pricey - even at a "group buy" they would be pretty expensive, and then you would have to get the lights, mounting hardware, and all that - you would also have to add reinforcing in the engine bay to make up for the lost front end rigidity that all unibody cars suffer when you remove steel fenders and install composite ones - and then there's the repaint of at least the front end of the car

it would have the look for sure, but you would be in for at least 4k before you were done

I suppose that the fast answer is that I am not aware of anyone developoing a satisfactory solution for a "street" car..

I never really understood the hubbub, but then again my list of cars since 1983 is Rx-7 (1983), Rx-7 (1988 Convertible), 1991 MR2, had a 1985 Celica GT-S convertible, the 968 of course and a Miata.....

Mike said only one person at the reunion noticed the conversion---I think that must have been bandit...so I think that makes a statement on how well intergrated they are! My car is scheduled to be done in 2 weeks

Depending on when it was I would have noticed. I talked to him on Saturday night and he said that it was about a week's job and they had to cut the inner fenders to get the lights to fit. I would love to do this to my 68 but can't manage to drop the money on the litronic's!

Flash sure has a keen eye. I stood in front of that car in person for 10 minutes before I noticed. The sticking up part does not bother me a all, I think the more vertical look without a gap gets rid of that 928 look and gives it a more 911 look. The only part that bothers me is that 993 lights are smoked or tinted and that really gives off a different look.

So, it's been about two years... never updated us on the conversion... how'd it come out?
