I'll confess...I'm the one who beat eveybody to it. I bought it in hopes if being able to replicate it. Last I checked into this, tracking down a supplier of the actual chip was difficult. I'll update this thread on my progress.

With the irreplaceable and gracious help of Biotechee last evening, we ran the airbag diagnostics successfully on my car. The little gadget works very nicely. Now I just need some help figuring out the codes so I know what to do next. Initially, a code 11 and two code 22 showed up. After a reset, the airbag light returned, as did one code 22. Another reset, and one code 22 returned again. Ritchie, do you know what this is saying? I have 3-ohm resistors that I'm willing to install, but I'd like to avoid guessing what the problem is so that I avoid solving a problem that isn't causing the light.

Anchorman,

I think code 22 is probably a disconnected passengerside airbag.
The other codes I know I have them attached.
I have always updated the first mail from the topic.
So let me know of code 22 is what we think it is so I can do an update.

regards
Ritchie

Q13 Can it reset the airbag warning light?
Ans. Yes it can. It was the first thing I tried. Because of that I invested many evenings!.

The next code was shown by my 968.

Signal implausible
Fault code 30 It means that after I had disconnect the instrument cluster and turning on the ignition without instruments You’ll get this code.
Now I’ve cleared it is gone and the lights are out. Yes and form me this topic is already finished by doing that by my selves. Al the other possibilities are extra goodies!

Fault code 21 means disconnected steeringwheel airbag

Other codes are:

Ign. circuits
Frt.sensor left
Frt.sensor.right
Ign.pill.circ.1 (driver side)
Ign.pill.circ.2 (passenger side)
Ign.pill.circ.3 (passenger side)
Airbag warning light.

Thanks, Ritchie. I'll start by checking the passenger airbag connections (not an easy task, but...). I'll keep this thread posted with anything I learn.

Ritchie, you were correct - code 22 is a passenger airbag fault. After reconfirming that the only code I was getting was one 22, I pulled the glove box and reached up to feel the airbag connectors (there are two on the passenger side). I found that one was not inserted all the way. I pushed it on firmly, reran the diagnostics, and got NO CODES!!! I just went for the first ride in nearly a year without my constant companions - the red ! and the airbag light. WHAT A PLEASURE!!! Thanks to Ritchie, Andy, and for your pushing and help, Biotechee.

No problem - my car, being a '95, only has 13 year old airbags. :D (But, who knows when they were really made?)

Honestly, the functioning of the airbag is less of my concern. I wanted the lights OFF, and I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't have a problem passing NJ inspection in April. I don't know if an airbag fault is cause for failure, but the inspection station does connect to the diagnostic port, and they also would have seen the dash lights. Now they're GONE - and how sweet it is.

OK, forgive me for digging up an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one...and there's enough new folks here that may want to read this thread anyway!

I have just mere minutes ago successfully reset my airbag light, which I wouldn't have had in the first place if I didn't start the car with the instrument cluster out! :) That belongs in the DON'T category in the DOs and DONTs thread!

Question for Ritchie, I, however, was unsuccessful at reading any of the other data such as "Climate Control", "Motronic", or "ABS/Traction". The software just blinks the red box and says "connecting". Any tricks to getting those functions to talk? I cut the LED D4 off, but not the other one, and the jumper is on the outside 2 pins as noted. Just curious for future tinkering...I already disconnected and put the laptop away as I can now move on to finalizing getting the car back on the road. I also still plan to revisit the schematic to see about producing these as soon as time permits.

Hi Darryl,

The motronic is very difficult to read anyway. I didn't get the trick either. But the ABS, tip and alarm is possible.
Fot me it is a long time ago that I read the faultcodes from the car. When I got the ! light out as also the airbagwarninglight this project went a month later to the "basement." Normal life goes on etc.

But there is an option to rename the hardware adress of the module in the software. This because this is necessary because the software has some internal bugs. And was written for a 964.

Maybe this will help you out.

I also found a program that can do some plotting from the life data that the car produces.
Maybe this can help you out either.
Mail me If you want it. I didn't have tried the software myselves but I think it will work out.

Connecting to the airbag unit works fine.
Has anyone successfully connected to the motronic?
Baudrate? Address?

Yup 9600. There is a freeware to connect to the Motronic and graph data. I have it all zipped up for people. PM me if you want it emailed.
