Anchorman: I believe the interface comes with 3 leads,

ans:I have to correct you the interface has all the four leads.
The only thing what is important is to cut the D4 led out of busniss. Otherwise it is hard to connect to the car or almost impossible.

MIles: Do we need the male 19 pin plug or additional 9 db serial cable as discussed above?
ans: you have to buy the serial cable, because the interface cannot connect in the laptop. It is male versus male. So you have to buy a straight trough 9 pins female female connectercable.

For the first time you can put the leads into the 19 pins connector. Be careful to put them into the right holes.
And Miles As you interface has the D4 led, and is simular to the interface as I described in the first post? The first thing I would do is checking com status, download software and cut of the Led. Cutting of the led, I did it at a place so I could easily repair it. I don't now why but I cut it a centimer above the circuit board.

It is good to see that more people will help me to develop it further.

Ritchie.

Ritchie, thanks for the reminder to cut the LED out of business. I'd forgotten about that, but would have gone back to your instructions after I receive the interface. But, now I'll surely remember about this step. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Is the below link to the interface the correct one? I have seen this interface come up in the past, but it's always in a sold out state. So how are people buying it?

According to Ritchie (unknown4u), the unit to buy - which is now shown as having only 2 in stock - is this one: http://www.ecufix.co...products_id=183

somebody put this together in a package - i'm going to be very lazy on this one and wait for some industrious person to assemble it for me - i am of course willing to pay for that effort

If it works, I'll package - and, of course, charge appropriately for the effort. (Unless, of course, I can charge inappropriately - that'll depend on how much "value added" I contribute.)

Hi Flash,
I do hope Andy will sell this interface in the future, Because I do not know an other shop who is selling this interface. The complete drawing is in the scantool zip file. Maybe a local electronic shop can order the parts and built it for you.

I'm gladd to see that you guys get more and more enthousiastic!.
I'm still have a big smile when I get in the car and think this car won't trick me anymore with an airbaglight! Because I have it under control and don't have to see the OPC.

I just checked Andy's website: there is one left.....

MY INTERFACE UNIT ARRIVED TODAY!!! Unfortunately, I'm giving my car to RSBarn this evening to get some pre-DE work done while I make a quick business trip to Portugal. So, I won't get to do any testing until the weekend. Stay tuned, though. I also have some 3 ohm resistors to use in the airbag system in case I can't get the faults to clear and stay cleared.

Congrats Anchor!

If you bought the Porsche specific plug you will need to make sure your pins are pushed all the way in so that they stick out far enough to make contact. I filed down the front of plug just a little so that the pins stick out just a little more as I had difficulty making contact with the cars plug. Now I'm sure I make contact with the car as I have tested and retested to make sure I am getting the signal.

This was were I had my first problem, so I hope you won't have the same problem. If you are crawling under the dash and plugging the wires directly in to the car's plug this obviously won't be an issue.

Keep us posted and have a safe trip

Regards

Miles

ps I did cut the D4 LED and still no luck, but I'm convinced it is the serial adapter that I have been using. The next test I will perform is to drag the desktop with built in serial port to the garage. If the COM port is not assigned to COM Port 1 the software will not stay on after it has been launched.

Yes, looking forward to your return and test results. I have contacted my former boss and circuit borad playmate who is maybe interested (time permitting) to help build thiese things. His son has a VW with a pesky CEL and was thinking learning about OBD is a good thing! Seems as though our UK friend has no more of these boards? The only item that may be tricky to procure is the chip itself.

Miles I think it will work out with a laptop with an onboard comport. Also use win2000 or higher. I supposse Windows XP will work out. Mine work with win2000 as I described.

I have done a search for the components on the interface here in Europe. I can get al the components for assembly the interface. I can arrange this for those who are interestted in it. So let me know if you are interested with a private email that I can put you on the list.

Darryl, your friends son can better buy an interface with the software from Rosstech.

Special made for VW and Audi. It is a great program for a couple of bucks!.
