No, staying at the event Hotel is not mandatory. The only mandatory payment is the Registration Fee of $25 which allows you to participate in the Friday wash-n-shine judging and the tech quiz and the 968 special parking area at the Swap Meet on Saturday. The Friday night awards buffet is optional - if you do not attend but won an award, it will be mailed to you. If you register, you will also receive a 968 Celebration Welcome Package, a 968 custom pen and a PCA 968 Register custom badge (some of these may be on Ebay later).
After next Tuesday, registrations will no longer include the option of hotel accomodations.
So, if you do not need hotel reservations, simply send in your registration form with a check and you are good to go.

The upside of all this was that I finally repaired and upgraded the stereo - all in preparation for the trip. Now I have the ipod onboard and a head unit that actually gets radio reception.

It was always a danger. I was cutting it close, returning from Dallas Thursday morning and driving to DC that evening. Plans changed late yesterday and now I have stuff in Dallas until mid-Friday morning. Eh, it pays the bills.
The upside of all this was that I finally repaired and upgraded the stereo - all in preparation for the trip. Now I have the ipod onboard and a head unit that actually gets radio reception.
Ralph -- Glad you got your sound system upgraded. What head unit did you decide to put in?

What head unit did you decide to put in?
Alpine CDA-9857. The iPod control was the best I found in the aftermarket and I got one at a serious discount from a local retailer who was about to send all his old stock to a reseller.
Just sad I won't be listening to it all the way to PA

Would you believe they are forecasting sky liquid thru Thursday and Friday is 50 percent.

Look forward to meeting many of you for the first time and seeing a lot of familiar faces too. If it does not rain at all on Friday, you know I have a direct link to the Almighty!

Don
P.S. The theme of this year's Celebration is "Preparing your Porsche 968 to be a Classic" and I will have my 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe w/Continental Kit, at the event. Tom Charlesworth will tell us how to prepare our cars and inform us about Porsche's Classic Club program. It will be taped and available to all 968 Register members and we may put it on Youtube.

Our contingency plan is to have the wash n shine concours on Sat (good weather forecast) at the Swap Meet if we cannot hold it on Friday. Friday buffet dinner will proceed as planned.
If we happen to get a shower on Friday, all you need to do is modify one of the awards and give it to "the best water beader" !

I'll holding out hope we will be OK...it as supposed to shower here in Northern VA this afternoon and we got nothin'! Latest is 60% scattered, so maybe it will miss Hershey. Fingers and toes are crossed.
See everyone in a few days!
