Advice - selling my coupe

I am in a position where I need to sell my '94 coupe. The car is in *good* condition so I think I can put a pretty good starting price on it, however it has two options that might affect the value:

 

  • M030 sport package - I read the post about how M030 devalues that car and I respectfully disagree (having owned both versions). However I am not the buyer here
  • 220 LSD - This I know is of value.

 

My question - any opinions how much each of these affects the price, up or down?

If any given buyer “de-values” the M030 he or she is an idiot .   It has consistently proven to be highly sought after .

As for how much that and the LSD could add to the price I have no idea ( if I was looking at a 968, all else being equal , I’d probably pay 15% -20% over the price of the car I would otherwise , for those two features .. but that’s just my perspective ) . However, it should at least attract more interest than a regular 968.

I agree that both options should net a bit of a bump over another car. As I’m selling my cab, I’ve been paying pretty close attention to the auctions. Decent 968s w/75-125k miles have been going from $20-$30K. I think 020 and M030 should add $2500-$3,000.

 

On a personal note: I always lusted after the M030 option, until I needed to replace my shocks/struts. I got OEM replacement Boges* from a Dealer for $250/$300.  The 030 replacements were 3 times that much.** For the driving I do, it’s an unnecessary expense. 
 

* I’ve since heard that the OEMs are NOA from Porsche. No idea about aftermarket suppliers. 

** I’m not sure about it but there are places that can either rebuild the 030 bits, or the new replacements are rebuildable.

I spoke to a guy I’ve known for a while at the Glen last weekend who bemoaned that our 968’s seem to have no value. We know the value but some of these features are unknown to potential buyers. Newer Porsches have speeds and features that are attractive to younger buyers. You see this at the track every weekend. Our buyers market is a niche field which needs to be kept in mind. My two cents worth.

I just bought new struts and goodies for my car and actually found a new MO30 sway bar and bought it.

I agree with others that both options should increase the value of the car. I wouldn't mind having a limited slip diff.

Sorry you're in the position of needing to sell the 968...do hope it works out for you.

My opinion (worth maybe almost as much as you paid for it) is that you can ask & should get more for both options. Maybe $3,000 more.

However, I really don't think an LSD changes much performance-wise for a street car. This is based on last year completely rebuilding a 901 transmission for a 914 and adding an LSD, billet intermediate plate, all new synchros, sliders, dog teeth, etc. It's great for "bragging" rights, but not so much difference in the seat of your pants.

Maybe we need to swap in that LS motor with tons more HPs to see a real difference? Yeah, that's gotta be it...so it's now on the list. :)

There were only 99 M030 968s sent to the NA Market, they are clearly MORE Valuable than standard. AND, the LSD adds at least a few hundred to the value.
