Things would have worked out differently had we not fought a 15 year battle to keep our son alive and out of prison so that he had the time to realize that the life of an abuser is no life. He had been clean and sober now for 8 years. I have no regrets, just disappointed that I will be an economic refugee from my home state.

On a happier note, some you who arrive a day or so early should see if you can secure a reservation at Taste in Plymouth. Plymouth is a one stop light town with a world class restaurant. Definitely worth the effort.

I’m delighted to hear that about your son. It’s a long and difficult road but it can have the results you speak about. I’ve watched this happen for the last 20 years of my life at Clearbrook. Happy house hunting.

I graduated from Cal (U.C. Berkeley) in 1982, the last year it was on the quarter system. Tuition was $250/quarter, or $750/year (one went for three "quarters"). In-state tuition is currently around $30K/year. A big thanks the Prop. 13 which froze property taxes. Homes that have remained in the same family since 1978 pay taxes on the 1978 valuation.

We at the University of Nevada welcome California students because their out of state tuition in Nevada is lower than their in-state tuition at a Cal State School. Because of this, last year the UC system increased the number of spaces available to try to keep some of those California students from attending the University of Nevada. It worked, my College lost 2.1 million dollars in out-of-state tuition, and that was true for most of the colleges on campus. While I'm a product of the University of California system, I don't pretend to understand their politics and their logic. But then again, I don't understand why our football coach makes almost four times what our University president makes.

At the risk of hijacking this thread and moving it away from Bay Area housing prices, may I respectfully ask about the events planned at the WCG 2018?

Hi, Matt. People should arrive Friday for social time and dinner together. Sat will be a scenic drive and group dinner. Sunday, a drive out to visit Moaning Caverns, a local attraction and fun drive back to Sonora. Dinner that evening with those that can stay overnight. Should be great scenery on the drives up into the Sierra Nevadas. We don't have a winery stop scheduled this year. The restaurant Chris reference is something we'll look at, its not too far away.
Chris, one of my daughters lives in Santa Fe and loves it if you need any info pm me.

A nice winery to visit is Vino Noceto located in Plymouth. Plymouth is about an hour north of Sonora on HWY 49. Vino Noceto produces some of the best Sangiovese available in California. The also produce wine from the Gran Pere vineyard which is one of the oldest documented vineyards in California, dating back to the 1860's.

We drove by that winery two years ago during the S Lake Tahoe event. Might be a nice option for Sunday.

Preparations are in full swing for the 2018 West Coast Gathering. Fun winding roads have been located. Historic and archaeological stops on the way, and yes there will be one Winery stop. We have checked out fun restaurants, and all in all, it looks like a great weekend ahead for us at he end of June. For those of you that have already booked at the Sonora Inn ( our reserved block of rooms at the special price is good through May 29) please contact Bob (az968) in a PM and let him know your contact info, number of  participant (s). That way we can communicate changes. This might be a good time to book, if you haven't already, as reservations are filling up.

Questions, write me please.

We are a little over a month away from our annual 968 West Coast Gathering. I completed a small expeditionary trip up to the The Eldorado Foothills last week and can report that the roads are in excellent condition. Deadline for booking at the Sonora Inn is May 29, but you might also find a good deal at other hotels in Sonoma. This should be a fun weekend and it looks like a super turnout, so get your reservation in and confirm with Bob Frith or me. Detailed driving info and time schedule will be handed out Friday night as we gather for some good wine and great company in the Sonora Inn breakfast room.

...See you soon in the Sierras.

Below you see the Sonora Pass Road which takes you to Lake Tahoe. If some of you have extra time on hand...go for it!!

This annual event sounds quite enjoyable and I hope to attend sometime.
It just won’t fit in to the June lineup I’ve got going, which is mostly vintage racing and multiple PCA events.
Please post photos of the cars, people, cars, venues, and also the cars.

As we get closer to our event you will see small updates and corrections. The Moaning Cavern stop will be on Saturday. We will need to leave at 8:30 sharp to get the 10AM tour. Otherwise the wait can be 2-3 hours I am told. Unfortunately Vino Noceto could not facilitate us on Sunday. We will visit Rennwood Winery instead and they have lunch  offerings to order. I have made reservation and paid for 15 people so far which I will collect from you. It's $5 a head and covers reservation and tasting. Stopped by 2 weeks ago. Great wines ( and you all know I am a critical SOB being used to have "Martha/s" for breakfast LOL) Wonderful setting. Hoping to set up the Group Photo here. All info and maps will be handed out Friday night. There might be more updates coming so stay tuned. Questions?...use this topic.

The group coming from AZ will be hitting a little extra fun driving.  Anyone in Reno area should come our way, CA 168 to CA 395 and overnight in Bishop and then over the Sierra Nevada's.

Any trip to Bishop isn't complete without a visit to Schatt's Bakery.

AZ968 are you going to take hwy. #120 through Yosemite?  It's a nice drive that I have done

many times.  You would have to pay the $30 entrance fee just to drive through though.

Will the drive include a visit to Columbia State Park?
