Porsche has announced that the sixth Rennsport Reunion will be held at Laguna Seca and will be held September 27-30, 2018.

This is a Thursday - Sunday.  Roughly 1,300 Porsches were there at the last one.

Why don't we tag a West Coast Gathering on to that, Maybe arrive the Tuesday before?  We could even pick someplace to meet on Tuesday and drive as a group to Monterrey? There should be a lot of 968 owners that will want to come for this.

It will be a huge event so we'll want to make a quick decision and start booking a hotel.

OK, let's do it.

We could meet at the Academy of Art University Automobile Museum (San Francisco) or Blakhawk Museum - an automobile museum (Dannville) or MOMA (San Francisco)...or Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Sounds good, I blocked out my calendar already .
Keep in mind that hotels in proximity of Laguna Seca will fill up well in advance so by six months ahead of the event you maybe out of luck . Also, the prices are as high as 3X the normal rate.
Otherwise, a 968 GTG aligned with Rennsport and the caravan drive to Monterey should be a blast !

I'm in. Again hotel prices are crazy. Look for a motel outside the area.....and look and book early.

I'll be there. Luckily my parents live right down the road in Santa Cruz...can't get cheaper than that!

Watsonville is where we stayed at the last Werks Reunion.....keep that in mind. A lot less expensive.

What about someplace like Castroville,it's closer, maybe 30 minutes to the track?

If it's anything like the Pebble Beach Concours, etc. in August, we'll be paying $300 a night to stay in a Motel 6 in Salinas! If a decent hotel can be arranged at a decent price, I'm in. Five or six nights at $300+ per doesn't sound all that tempting to me.

It's not as ridiculous as the PBC event , but still a rip-off. Hey, it's all about capitalizing on supply and demand , lol.
When the U.S. hosted the soccer World Cup , I traveled to Pasadena for the final match . A business partner was able to get two tickets
( nosebleed section, 80th row, and in a corner of the stadium behind the goal ) at a mere $ 1,100 a piece but his company's expense account covered that , however , when I checked to see if I can book a hotel , there was a two night minimum for everything within a 25 mile radius of the stadium , and the equivalent of Motel 6 , Howard Johnson Inn, etc prices were approx. $ 500 / night . Just as a reference , the Ritz Carlton in Pasadena rates were 10 X their standard rack rate . And sold out too !, I ended up staying at a friend's house in the area , but that was pure luck .
So Rennsport maybe much more " reasonable " BY COMPARISON , but it all comes down to what it's worth to the person to attend the event . No different than a concert, or a sporting event , and so on . I usually spend $ 2,000 total to attend a Formula One event ( in Austin ) but even that is wearing thin in light of how much I get back out of it . My threshold for Rennsport is about $ 300 .

There are some hotels in Santa Cruz under $200 night and in Watsonville in the same range.  Looks like most of the hotels are already adjusting their rates for the event. A lot of hotels don't book that far out so I couldn't see the rates. Last REnnsport I booked a room and the hotel called me later to advise the rate was higher, take it or leave it.  It was suggested that we could meet a little further north, maybe around Half Moon Bay, for a couple days of hanging out and driving around, then drive down toward Monterrey for RR. Maybe stay in Watsonville, a 45 min drive to the track where rates will be a little better than in Monterrey. Those that don't want to stay through the weekend could depart sooner.

No question, the rooms will be pricier for the weekend.  But, you'd get two great events for the price of one!

Your best bet is to get a group together and rent a house on VRBO or Airbnb. That is what I did the last time and am doing again, booked a house over the weekend. You are probably looking at around $250 a person for a three night stay, depending on the house and home many people you get together. Need to book soon though as houses are already starting to go.

Not to be the turd in the punchbowl, but I'm not so sure this is a good idea for a 2018 gathering - at least not for me. To be honest, the Rennsport event holds no attraction for me - heck, I don't even know what a "Renn" is and why it should be sporty! Like Flash (used to say), I bought my 968 in spite of the fact it was a Porsche, not because it was. I enjoy driving the "red-headed step-child" of the Porsche family. And maybe I'm guilty of pre-judging, but I truly believe my wife and I enjoy the camaraderie of our little group a lot more than we would the typical "Porsche people". We've had a blast at the first two West Coast Gatherings and would enjoy a third more if it were the main event rather than a side event to a huge 911 gathering. And I'm certainly not thrilled with the idea of paying a premium to either stay in an otherwise mediocre motel, or share a bathroom with anyone other than my wife. Just my $.02.

Keep in mind that Bob is only throwing ideas out at this early stage. I still think Gold Country (Sonora base) is a great option too. Plenty of Sierra Foothill fun roads. Tons of motels and how about a visit to Moaning Cavern?

Last Rennsport Reunion I stayed at Pacific Grove.  A decent motel in a great area for about $200 a night.

I split it with a couple of friends.

It helps to book early and to be flexible.
