Somehow this crazy idea started in my head some days ago. I have a good connection with the Vice President of PORSCHE US. He told me just the other day that the COO ,Joe Lawrence, had just purchased a pristine 968 in Amazon Green with low (23K) miles.

 

So this is what I am getting at. Would there be any interest among us West Coast 968 ( AZ, NV,OR,WA incl) to do a trek to Atlanta to show our 968's? I would off course try to seek some sponsorship from Porsche AG and Porsche US..The return trip would go over LA for a visit of the Porsche Museum.

 

This would be a huge task to put together and would not be until 2018 earliest. Inputs greatly appreciated. I know I am thinking a bit outside the box here but this could be the best 2-3 week vacation of your life.

You are totally out of your mind. That said, I felt the need to say that of course, potentially great idea. More details even if off the cuff ideas needed though!

A trip like this would potentially get a lot of PR and also proof how well made the 968 is. The transaxles have been "underdogs" for years and still is among many 911 owners. Time for a change.

 

It could be expanded to include all of the US 968's to join us..........yes I am dreaming....but it's a sweet dream

There is a lot to do in Atlanta. I would consider it if it fit in with my schedule. Maybe in late Spring?

This would, of course, include a return trip with events and PR shows.....For now just think about it. ...potentially it could be the biggest 968 stunt ever...Still just dreaming.....my 30 years of experience in Sales & Marketing is still boiling in my head.

You could always visit the 968 capitol of the US, Charleston SC, where we have the most 968's in one area and where they all obtained their US citizenship. Porsche is no longer importing the cars here, but the building is still here and the road is still named Porsche Blvd.

If Porsche supported it to the extent of picking up a lot of the expenses and, perhaps, providing a chase/repair vehicle, (I can dream), there might be enough interest to pull it off. I suspect there would have to be at least a couple of dozen cars. Wouldn't really work with four 968s and a rented Mustang!

It would depend on what PCNA could do to support this. There are a lot of 968s in that region of the country. Probably 4 days each way. Maybe that large club of Porsche owners would join in.

Let's see what PCNA says about supporting an event there.

Jeff Coe is the 968 Advocate at PCA. He is also a member here (Jeff968) and might be a good starting point.

I was kind of thinking having East Coast 968's join us in Atlanta. I have no clue whether PORSCHE US or PCA would sponsor any of this. All I can say is that I have a very important contact within the Porsche Administration. Let's just debate the subject for a while and listen to inputs. I would not work on this unless Jeff Coe is involved at one point, This man has done so much for the 968 and the support. He would be our East Coast connection if he agreed.

I sense that this would be more than a West Coast to Atlanta event. There seem to be some interest from our East Coast friends in joining us in Atlanta.

Let me contact Jeff Coe for his input. A realistic number of cars to get this PR stunt realized would be 50 in my opinion.....Any thoughts?

I will attend any East Cost event in proper 968 dressage...Haggerty Insurance loves these kinds of stories, maybe they would underwrite a portion.

Another possibility is for us in the west to hire a car carrier to haul our cars from Sacramento to somewhere central, say Dallas for example. We fly to DFW, drive to Atlanta, and drive back to our respective homes at our own pace. Looking at the drive from Reno to Atlanta, if we drove both ways we would have to dedicate two weeks to the trip, which would be difficult if not impossible.

I estimate this event to take 2-3 weeks. it would not be fun if everyone is in a rush. Think vacation time ladies and gentlemen. It definitely would not appeal to most and it would require 968's in tip top shape. The theme I am building on is the ad Porsche use in a lot of publications including PCA's Panorama.

 

"Over 70 percent of all Porsche vehicles ever built are still on the road today. With our factory restoration and preservation services, we make sure it stays that way"

 

I am throwing some PR thoughts towards PORSCHE US sponsorship using this ad.

 

Through my conversations with the PORSCHE US HQ, Atalanta Vice President Joe Folz we touched on the subject of maintaining a 968. He picked my brain on this realizing that most Porsche dealers and service facilities are not capable of servicing our cars. Most of us have found capable mechanics with transaxle expertise but I am sure there are many 944/928/968 owners out there who only get mediocre service.

 

Now with that said this event could share light on this issue which PORSCHE US is well aware of but does not know how to handle.

 

......Oh yes, there is a ton of stuff going on in my head.........I love the dream though!....can I make it a reality?...that's the question....only with the input and help from all of you.
