Lucky you guys are not doing this in the Bay Area, the forecast is for an EXtREME heat wave on both days with temps in some areas reaching 100 !!

( iIt's probably Bob - az968 - 's car passing through the area and the radiating heat dissipation off his Arizona car that's affecting the climate ! )

Which "Bay Area" are you looking at? I just checked the forecast for Oakland (East Bay) and it shows a scorching high of 76 that weekend! Mendocino shows highs in the upper mid 60's. (Not that forecasts that far out are any more than speculation). I'll never get my wife to let me put the top down. :-(

The Mendo forecast for the gathering weekend shows highs in the upper 60's. Anyone who will be suffering through a hot week ought to head up there for a nice respit. This weekend in San Jose CA is forecasted at 97 so that is really hot for the Bay Area. Here in my part of AZ it's going to top out at 100! Can only imagine how hot it's going to be driving through some of the more scenic parts of CA on our way over, places like Barstow are going to be 111 when we drive through! Better re-check my car's A/C!

San Jose isn't the Bay Area. It's the northernmost suburb of L.A.!

AZ968,

Since I hadn't planned to attend, I've got a ton of cellar work scheduled for that weekend. We have finally connected with a distributor who has placed our wine in some significant outlets. A good thing to be sure but, we need to get wine out of tanks and into bottles for distribution.

Things will be better next year for us, I'm confident of that.

Chris

Very funny.   Neither is anything east of the Bay Bridge , those are Sacramento and Stockton suburbs.  :P

I was watching several weather forecasts on different channels -  yes, San Jose 97-98 , Pleasanton 100,  even the City I believe was forecasted to be above 82-83, most of everything on the Peninsula  ( except right on the Ocean ) were in the mid-high 80s,  much of Marin County also 80s,    I think Livermore ( another Stockton Suburb   ) on Saturday afternoon is predicted to break 100  .   But you guys will be in cool & refreshing  Mendocino, so who cares about the Bay Area this weekend ?!

Actually, we'll be there the weekend after this one, so hopefully it will cool down for you all.

Oh man, just looked at the date again, no idea why I thought it was on this weekend. Senior moment for sure. Still can't make the meet so I'll have to join the rest of this year's absentees in hope we can all add to the group at the 2018 West Coast gtg.

As I said about this weekend ( for whatever any of us may consider the parameters of the Bay Area lol ..) :Attached File  image.jpg   137.67KB   0 downloads

Thiese were almost identical temps ( the " inland " ones ) to one of our Paso Robles 968 meetings at the end of which, on the way home , my timing belt broke . So very unpleasant memories for me . Two different and very experienced Porsche 968 mechanics said the extreme heat and then the coast's cold night weather where we stayed overnight, followed by again extreme heat the next day during the spirited drive , ( all of course combined with the high mileage on my belt ..) undoubtedly was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back .

So PSA : those of you with high mileage belts, are playing engine russian roulette particularly if you subject your car to extreme temperature swings and drive like a bat out of hell on top of it all ..don't make the same mistake I have , it's a $ 6000 bad bet ...

The Bay Area temps on the above chart are 20 degrees less than the Inland temps, and the Coastal temps are 10-20 degrees lower than the Bay Area - as is typical. The latest forecasts are showing low 70's for the Bay Area, and mid-60's to low 70's in Mendo. And if Flash was around he'd strongly remind us that those belts need to be changed regularly, regardless of the weather! Otherwise you are playing with fire, even if the Bay Area fire is 20 degrees cooler than the Inland fire! lol

with all that "freshness", and given where you are, could you pretend to be the Fresh Prince of Bel Ayr?

Yiiikes !   You can even escape to Sub-Saharan Africa for cooler weather .. although our golden state's Death Valley , at various times during the year, will rival pretty much any global venue's high temps.

Like I said,  I'm not not going to any car meeting again unless the temps are moderate - preferably low 60s, and no more than 70.   Not because of the timing belts, I just have no interest in dealing with hot weather , particularly when I'm in a car, no matter how cold the AC is...

I was once in Phoenix and saw a man on the sidewalk burst into flames!  He turned to me and said "at least they're dry flames".
