That's why we are planning to stay on the east side of the lake for our run. I am considering SLT to Incline Village, down Mount Rose Hwy, up Geiger Grade to Virginia City, around VC to the 50 and back through Carson City to SLT. Time for a photo op at VC and maybe somewhere up Geiger Grade. This is a very popular run for cars and bikes because of the elevation change and the twisty nature of the road. With any luck we can all get pulled over by NHP and get a picture of the group sharing their tickets. I agree that the thermocline of the lake in July is thin and the temp drops rapidly with depth, but that's not why we are there. West side and north shore are nuts in summer, which is the nature of popular places. Fortunately the gathering is the weekend after July 4th, so maybe there will be fewer people and less madness. With the snow we are getting, there should be good rafting from Tahoe to River Ranch.

The dates and location are set. I (the organizer) will be there then along with the others that have registered and those that still plan to register (don't wait, it is filling up). There will be other gatherings in the future for those that don't like the idea of S Lake Tahoe in July. The dates and locations will be selected by the organizers who volunteer to set them up.
No offense taken.

Should be a lot of fun. I can tell you (having had Tahoe as my sales area for 20 years) that things dramatically,as mentioned, calms down after 4th of July.

July is great! No snow! No skiers! If you want to swim, the hotel has a pool. How about a little time to walk around Virginia City? I know my wife will not be thrilled if we drive there and only get out long enough to take a pic. In fact, a stop at Virginia City may be the one thing that would convince her to come along for the fun run instead of staying back in the hotel.
Bob: Thanks for picking up the ball and putting this all together. I guess there aren't many of us who could have pulled it off since, it seems, the job can only be done by a "Bob"!
hehehehe

Proposed cruise #1

This would be a pretty long drive, but lots of fun twisty road, and the opportunity for a few hours at Virginia City for sightseeing and eating. There are a couple of interesting museums there that some of you may want to check out.
The road back would take us by the famous Moonlight Bunny Ranch. Car clubs like to stop there for photo ops with the sign in the background. If there is a mood to do so, that could be considered as well.
Please let me know what you think of the drive, and if you would be planning to attend. If it's acceptable, I will make some calls and see about some reserved parking in VC since that's often a problem.
We could omit the loop into Incline Village for brunch if we wanted to lunch in VC. That would reduce the time and distance a bit.

Matt:
Looks great! I'd vote to bypass Incline Village and lunch in VC.

In VC we need some kind of a spot where we can all park. I have been there many times and parking is always a problem. Dropping Incline is good.
#2 A Lake loop clock wise, Morning start ?. Stops up for discussion.

Can you look for parking in VC for 25 cars?
Thanks much!

Matt, this looks like a good route. I think a lake loop will be slow and full of traffic, it was a mess two years ago when i did it. Lunch and time to wander around VC is good. Will this allow for the stop at the prison for photo ops? This looks like a 3 hr drive plus maybe 3 hrs of stops. Nice day. I know Jay has executive orders to take a gondola ride but that could happen on Sun? Or how long it would take if we added it to the stop in Incline Village?

I will make some calls for parking and see what I find. The prison is not exactly on the route, and when I was there last week for a filming of Ghost Adventurers (a very bizarre experience) I scouted some places to take photos, and there really were not any that we could use that would work well with that many cars.
Skipping Incline is not a big deal. I think we take off in the morning, do the drive and VC, and Jay can get back for an evening ride up the hill and watch the sunset from the gondola. If the skies are clear, the sunsets at this altitude are outstanding.
I will see about some other possibilities as well, but this is a very good start. 25-30 cars should be doable, just not on main street.

If we can get 25 968's for this event, I would be very impressed. That would be an impressive 968 victory. Can't wait!!!
Another suggestion is a trip to Squaw Valley Village for lunch. Plenty of parking. Plump Jack is a good lunch stop.

was that 23 968s , or 23 968 owners ( recalling the Vettes, Charger, Boxsters, etc..)

I was assuming 25 vehicles, not 25 968's. I am thinking that there might be the odd Targa or Vette tossed into the mix for contrast. After all, we will be needing someone to lead the run to VC and garner the first speeding ticket on Geiger Grade.

23 968s. there were a few rentals on top of that.
it will be interesting to see how many show up for this, as it has been a couple of years since an event, and there is a new group of owners.
