I have promoted this event on other 968 venues and also through PCA, although it's isn't a PCA event, to reach as many 968s as I could. 968 Registry was very supportive. PCA Natl wasnt, for obvious reasons. And some of the confirmations are though those sources. I have keep any commitments flexible (dinner Sat night, winery on Sun, etc) for that reason - made it a bit more challenging. Gotten some great help from some local 968 owners with this so it's not a one man program. I just want to have fun with people I've never had the chance to meet in person. I know I will like them all.
Probably could have more people if I did this in LA but it will be a whole lot more fun in Tahoe, even with a two day drive for me, and that's what it is all about! You and Dan need to let the car sit another week and get up there:-)

yeah - been there done that. it's really a lot harder than many think to plan and run one of these. the biggest challenge is the "cat herding" required to get them to the event. in all the years of doing this (and i produce events for a living) i never ran into a group with less conviction. it seems that there is an inordinate number of last minute cancellations. very weird, but i just ended up accepting it as a reality.
lol - talk to dan. since i just decided to semi-retire again, i can probably work out whatever in terms of schedule, though it may be logistically complicated for my wife.
regardless, i'm sure it will be great, and everybody will have a good time.

yeah - in reality, i pretty much feel the same as dan. i've been there and done that a few times in my life with the car group thing. i did it with mustangs, big mopars, mgbs and then the 968. the latter two i was pretty much spear-heading things. i'm not inclined to do that again. as an event producer, i am also afraid that i would be disappointed. i've ruined it for myself by setting the bar so high. i know what tends to happen when seeking the middle, and i'm just not there anymore. for me, it's all about the frills, comforts, and luxury. that's why i have the car i have now, instead of the 968. it goes hand in hand. it's really a philosophical thing now.
have fun though guys. the drives are almost always fun, and hanging out and talking cars can be too. the drive home with the wife can be challenging though, and i highly recommend providing something special for them.

Bill, (whose wife will keep asking "what was their name" and getting the "I don't remember" answer)

I have never regretted a single meeting with a new 968er, whether it was attending my first 968 Celebration in Great Falls, Va or hosting events in Newtown or Hershey (OK, well I kinda regret that one, but not because of the attendees). I enjoyed seeing Kim when we cruised into Nova Scotia, and Netopyer when we cruised into Bratislava. Melva got really hooked when we attended 3 different events in Southern CA, and realized how similar all 968ers are wherever we meet them.
Can't wait to see everyone that's coming to SLT, it will be a great time!

So here is the latest on the early part of the weekend.
Check in at the 968 Park, even if you are staying someplace else, and ask at the front desk for the Porsche 968 Gathering material. There will be an envelope with details about the weekend, maps and directions for the Sat and Sun drives, and other tips.
Couple of things to start off the weekend: We will have the bar/lounge available at 4 pm for our early use. I plan to arrive in SLT around 1 pm.on Friday, the top will be up on my coupe. Come to the lounge at 4 and we'll be there. Feel free to bring snacks, etc, - we can bring in our own treats (sorry, no alcohol, laws, you know, but people staying at the Park will get two drink tickets they can use).
I'm afraid the car wash area isn't going to happen, there is a water use restriction in place now and hoses are verboten.
But, there are some nearby car washes listed on the check-in material that you can visit.
Dinner Friday night is not an organized dinner. Not knowing how many would be there in time for dinner, and not being able to find a restaurant flexible enough to work with me, complicated that. Restaurants are very busy right now. We could bring in pizza for the hospitality room if that works for people or break into small groups and hit the town. Or you can make reservation now for your choice of places to eat, just check on Yelp.
Dinner Sat night will be a cash affair, no credit cards. $33/person including wine, taxes and tips.So stock up on US currency.
There is major remodeling going on at their adjacent property, which is why it was closed for us to use, so parking is restricted at the hotel. When you check in, be sure to secure your covered parking space, they are being held for us. We will have to gather off-site to begin our drives, information will be in your package. The Saturday start time is being finalized, expect to be ready to leave at 9 am and I"ll let you know if it is any later..
Got some fun stuff planned for the weekend, come ready to play!
I'll post any last minute changes NLT Thursday evening.
Looking forward to seeing you all in SLT!

"I enjoyed seeing Kim when we cruised into Nova Scotia"
Thanks for the kind words Jay. The pleasure was at least as much mine.

Yeah, the main consideration for the Sat start time is the parking arrangements in Virginia City, we may need to be there mid-morning to be able to secure the parking area. That's being worked on to allow a later start time. VC is pretty bad for parking. When they built that town back in the 1850's they neglected to install parking garages

Saturday drive time is now 10 am, solved the VC parking. That will give people a little more time to sleep in and/or come to the Marina park early and show off your cars!

Do we have a count on the 968 participation yet? How many "real" 968's are rolling in? Leaving Marin County around 10AM. Will stop for lunch. Plan to arrive 14:00-15:00.
