86,000 miles on the clock as my baby spends most of her time sleeping in the garage at this time of year.
This year has been one of change for me. Melva and I made our first trip to Europe together, and even though we didn't get to attend or host a 968 event, we still found time to meet a new friend in Bratislava (Netpyer), so the worldwide search to meet new enthusiasts continues, and will for many years to come.
I'm not sure what the statistics are, but I'm sure that my 968forums to driving ratio is better than 50:1, and I derive as much pleasure from just being here as I do driving my now newly painted and renovated interior 968 (well, almost).
While I haven't been fortunate enough to attend 968 events, I have certainly been representing the mark at 5 different Cars & Coffee groups and was granted "special parking" at the Radnor Hunt Concourse. How often have I attended these gatherings and been the only 968? And every time the 968 is a subject of interest to the 1968 Camaro guys to last weeks Ferrari. The rarity of the 968 is the one truly distinguishing characteristic that makes this car so special to me. Like many of you, I sometimes search the web for something I want more or like better, haven't found it yet.
This year's Anniversary letter is somewhat bittersweet as it may very well be the last one with Bob and I as owners. Bob has decided to move on and I think it is in the best interest of the community that for myself, 7 years is enough of my behind the scenes meddling. We took this challenge on for all the right reasons, and I think our success and increased membership has proven that we will leave the community with a resource that is stronger than it was in 2008. We are very proud of this endeavor. I have, and will continue to own my 968, and to participate in and maybe even host a few events, but my time is very limited to pull together the "celebrations" of days past. I hope that the model of how a 2-3 day event will live on, since so many have enjoyed the ones we have hosted in Paso Robles and Newtown, it is ALWAYS about the people.
My hope, is that this site can remain the same encyclopedic resource we have always known it to be, with the added advantage of keeping up with all of the evolving technology and devices. In the future, I would like to check back in using whatever platform is closest and visit with old friends and continue to make new ones.
Thank you all, my friends, for making this cruise so fun
