Derek and I got back at midnight on Tuesday. We tripped up to Hearst and Carmel as Jake stated earlier. Must be a Canadian thing as we went to the silly hollowed out tree as well; we're attracted to trees, we're all lumberjacks.
Took off to Crescent City for the night and off home the next day with a quick stop at Fred Meyer for our allotment of Scotch.
Derek has a ton of pictures from the run and a video of the fun run if any wants any particular shots. Flash has copies of everything I believe so we can get that stuff posted in a common spot?
Can't even come up with words to describe the fun run, still drooling. Awesome time!
Tks to Tama for the wrench and Bandit for the tech assistance, he found the missing whine (yes, pun intended

Car ran flawlessly. The only problem was the passenger side door handle which broke (got stuck) on Saturday. That meant that Darlene had to enter and exit through the driver side door. She said it must have been over 40 times! And every time I had to look away because I was worried that the center console might get scuffed... We survived!
Here is a shot of what happened yesterday somewhere on the 101 along the southern Oregon coast.

My wife had a blast, too, which made the weekend all the better. Beforehand she was giving me the raised eyebrow kind of reaction, as in "Are we really flying to California just for the weekend?!", but I think she has a great story to tell her friends now, and that's what it's all about for women.
EDIT: Oh, and I'll be glad to put up some temporary online storage if anyone needs it to share photos, videos, etc.

you can start an album in the gallery, or use the one that banditsc already started.

Also you actually don't need to resize the pics, the system will do that for you after you upload them.

dave - don't wait for me to post your pics either. i have a hard enough time getting around to my own. i wanted copies of them for the article, not so i could post them here. post whatever you want of your pics.
as for size, it's file size that is the issue within threads, not pixel size. 250k per pic within a thread. gallery does as banditsc indicates.

This is a quote from the "Napa" thread, but I feel it fits better here...2400 miles is a doddle for us tough northerners! Now where's my Prep H and my doughnut again?
Darlene and I drove 2708 miles on this trip. If the average speed was around 50 mph, that means we sat in those seats for over 50 hours in the past 8 days
No need for prep-H but the lower seat bolsters did bother me a bit. They are made for someone with a skinny butt. I am surprised that I did not feel my lower back at all. That attests to the firmness and quality of the stock seats.

This is not "outside storage", which implies the forum somehow has rights to our personal photos.
I paid for the trip, I paid for the camera, I took the photos. Mine, mine, mine.
That being said, I will look at the gallery and post any photos I deem "worthy" of public consumption there as well - I understand the desire to have low-res photos for "posterity".

what i was saying was that we would really like to have the photos stored here, so that others may see them for years to come, and long after anybody else might choose to terminate their off site storage (which has happened in the past, losing those pics forever). however, we do not insist on it, nor do we feel that we have any right to tell somebody what to do with their stuff.
i am still sifting through all of the stuff i got from dave, and when i find what i am looking for, i will send along the proper paperwork so it can be published in a magazine. if anybody else has something they shot that they would like considered, please send it to me, and i will do the same thing for them. keep in mind though, that if the particular pic has already been shown somewhere else, the likelihood of using it is seriously decreased, as any exclusivity is lost.
so, if you want to be published, park your best shots, and send them to me. i'll look them over and let you know if we can use them.

Melva and I started our tour on a very sour note, our plane was delayed by mechanical trouble and the 5:55 PM flight we were scheduled for didn't take off until 8:15. We waited in line for 1 1/2 hours at Hertz and after I threw a complete fit and got on the phone with Hertz Customer Service, we drove out with a Mercedes Benz 350E Convertible so things were looking up.
We spent the first night out in Goleta, CA and had an easy drive on Friday morning to the Lompoc Wine Ghetto. It is a group of 16 wineries in an industrial park. Not much on atmosphere, but we scored some really good Pinot Noir from Flying Goat and Seagate at Moretti.
Friday we drove to Paso Robles and as soon as we checked in, the wine real tasting started. Bob and Ayn did not miss a trick and the entire event was so well organized that not a detail was missed. The wine and cheese event on Friday gave us an opportunity to re-acquaint with our old friends and meet another group of great new friends. We were going to drive down to the beach, but never quite made it.
The Saturday fun run was a blast, I'm sure I would have loved driving it, but I ended up as photographer in Flash's car...man, that Supercharger is awesome, even from the passenger seat! In addition to the magnificent route that josh laid out, I got to travel a piece of PCH 1 that I had never been on before (just above seal beach). After a hearty lunch at the hotel we were off to the wineries for more tasting. Adelaida was beautiful and wine was incredible, Carina is very small, but has some interesting wines and Tobin James is the biggest best party in Paso Robles. By the time we got to Eberle we were ready for some food, and dinner in the caves was a real treat!
Saturday night Scotch tasting has become a tradition and this year was no exception. There were 6 or 7 bottles, but my memory of what exactly we drank is a bit spotty.
On Sunday, we drove off into the noon sun and worked our way down to Sanata Barbara to meet some friends and continue the adventure.
Bob and Ayn, THANK YOU for everything you did to make it a perfect weekend. We appreciate every effort you put into making everyone feel welcomed and special. We look forward to many good times with you and our West Coast friends (and East Coast, and Canada).

Thank you from Darlene and myself to Bob and Ayn, for the excellent organization of the event.
Thanks to the great attitude of all the participants!
I would like to give some ideas that could be used in future events:
(this does NOT detract from the excellence of the 2013 event!)
1) A "formal" introduction session, where one by one the participants could introduce themselves. This would be to: let the others know your "proper" name / Forum name / where you live / some family details / length of 968 ownership / how you came to be a 968 owner / occupation / other hobbies / etc. Each person could decide what they wanted to share. The best time could have been at one of the wineries, since not all were there at the Friday evening "meet & greet".
2) I was looking forward to a "Show & Tell" (NOT Show & Shine!) session, where all the 968 owners could one by one show details of their cars, answer questions and ask the others for input on issues they may be experiencing. An hour or more would have been sufficient. Reduce the number of wineries visited to fit this in or have it at one of the wineries after the tasting at that winery was completed.
3) A "Technical Session", where someone has prepared in advance a topic that would be interesting to most participants. This could be done in conjunction with the Saturday night "Scotch Tasting" event.
4) (other people may have also thought of some good ideas to share...)
The non inclusion of these ideas, would in no way make us shy away from future events.
