Ok, locked and loaded ! Alena and I will meet up with Chris at tne Gilroy Starbucks coffee shack ( off Leavelesly Rd exit at the north end of the mall outlets ) at NOON , in case anyone else happens to be driving down 101 and around there in that timeline. Send me an email and we'll wait for you : dan.sandru@avagotech.com .

Looking forward to seeing old ( don't get offended, I don't mean age-wise, LOL ) and new friends in Paso. I have a feeling this last blast meeting is going to be LEGEN...wait for it....wait for it...wait for it....DARY !!!

Arrived in San Mateo by 8 pm. Staying at the Best Western.

ds - Is that the address? 8375 Arroyo Circle, Gilroy, CA. According to Google Maps it is about an hour drive from wher I am currently. I will try to get there by 11:45 at the latest.

Rap - would you hit the 101 at Salinas?

I will email both of you, just to make sure this gets through...

Edit: emails sent. I will call you both mid-morning...

Just my luck. Picked up the car from the shop today after getting everything checked out. Just went out to get some gas and the shifter started to feel loose, then came completely apart. 3 cop cars and a fire truck showed up and pushed me to a gas station. I am sitting in the parking lot waiting for aaa. Back to the shop and hopefully they can fix it in the morning.

2:45 am I should be in rem sleep but it seems my body decided it must take the usual 2 or 3 am half hour insomnia break from sleeping. Jake, call me ( or email or whatever's easier ) in the morning - we might be able to connect even before Gilroy if you want.
You're going to drive trough San Carlos 10 -15 minutes after you leave San Mateo anyway.. Not sure about the actual
address of the Starbucks shack in Gilroy but will google map it in the morning and confirm. Yo, Bob ( the RAP one ) so wanna synch your drive from Carmel to the mini-convoy on 101 on the way to Paso ?
Oops , just noticed mrmister post..Yikes..! but I would imagine that's an easy and very quick fix (??) so you should be good ..call or send email if you think you can make Gilroy by noon-ish and well wait.

Up at 3:30, icy roads and airplane. United sucks and didn't de-ice the plane ahead of time so we missed the connection in Newark.

Drove US1 from Leggett to Bodega. Great roads, great weather, light traffic.

Called AAA at 11:30 pm. It's 7:15am and they are telling me they should have a truck to me in an hour or so. 12 tow companies denied the call last night due to various reasons. The gas station I am at says they are going to have me towed if I don't move my car soon, oh the irony.

Arrggh, 12 tow vehicles sanctioned by AAA and all have some excuse or another not to get to your car within a reasonable time ?! ( 1 - 2 hrs Max ! ). And not to mention with perfect weather conditios..regardless of what hour it was.. That's just outrageous - you should write AAA about this when you get back from Paso and let tne consumer advocates of the local TV channels know as well, they always report stories like this... Good luck with everything this morning, see you in Paso , fingers crossed. ( Nine fingers crossed only, the other finger is for those tow companies. )

Just got the car to the shop. Took 10 hours to be towed 4 miles in a major metropolitan area. Hopefully it is just a clip, I will know soon enough. I will make it either way, just might be in the Audi.

Phew, made it at last! Long drive up from LAX. Morning started with ice and flight delays. Ended so far with heat and traffic delays. Time for a glass of make-it-better and meeting some new old friends. And I mean old in the age sense. :P

Awesome run! It was so good I got up early as we're still on NY time, and took the wife up the coast to enjoy the scenery. Then we just got back to LA and returned the Cayman. Only a few hundred miles over the allowed amount, but do you really want to say you rented it and didn't drive the wheels off? A bit slower today, as well, but the wife really enjoyed the car. ;)

Great time, perfect company, everything was flawless and what a way to end ( ????? ) a 10 year tradition !! Once again, thanks to Bob ( flash ) for organizing this event every year for an entire decade, and to all others from far away lands, and those from not so far away lands who joined the GTG . This is indeed a family ( even better actually, since there is no bickering and we don't have to live together ) .
Can't wait to see the photos !

cool - stuff

i'll put up some stuff shortly. i am only now digging out from the weekend.

i had a great time. thanks to everybody who made it. bummer for those who didn't. i think everybody had a good time, and this trip was definitely the most fun i had of any of them.

in the end, we had 16 968s there. a couple of last minute drop outs, and 1 complete mystery no show. still haven't heard from him. a few of the 968s did not do the fun run. they really missed out. we drove some roads that the most skilled driver would have found challenging. track days or autocrosses are nothing compared to the skills and focus required for some of the stretches on this one, where there were no second chances. we also saw some scenery that was nothing short of breathtaking. all without incident with the local constabulary. very cool.

i'll step back here and let everybody else tell their stories rather than have me ramble on and leave nothing for anybody else.

again, thanks to all, and a huge thanks to those who came in from such crazy distances.
