Flash sent an email to all the Paso aprticipants, in which he said: "If you have a radar/laser detector, I highly recommend you bring it and use it".
I had been meaning to get one some day, and now woudl eb a GOOD time!
I went last night to a local electronics store and they have an Escort Passport 8500 (blue) as an "open box" unit for $180 (someone bought it and used it for the weekend and then returned it). I think they sell at around $300 regularly. Is that a good unit (at that price)?

I get the Paso trip as "cake" for sticking with the 968 world and I will purchase the radar detector as "icing". The wife is sure to agree, since she hates paying for tickets...

I have the same one Jake and it works well, especially in WA and OR. Don't think it ever stopped going off in those 2 states last year.

good news and bad news for the scotch tasting...

first the bad, madeira finishing seems to be a thing of the past for now since Glenmorangie has discontinued and Balvenie distribution is still very thin.

now the good, secured a Balvenie 14 finished in a caribbean rum cask

We made it to Portland by 11:00 pm (left house at 5:30). Car ran great. Radar Detector was very active! Gotta grab some sleep. Long day ahead of us...

Unfortunately the CHP has taken to hiding cruisers off of the side of the road and then using radar to tag you. I just cool it and let the ricers get the tickets. Too many idiots out there texting and driving requires that we be hyper-vigilant and I don't like to add trying to outwit the cops on top of it.

Bay Area attendees, are we going to try and go down as a group? I'm planning to leave sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 AM. Dan said he was leaving about the same time. Anybody else?

Just got it and haven't figured it out yet. Might be a good day today...headed down US 1 from FT. Bragg to Bodega and over to Sebastopol tonight.
We'll probably leave Sebastopol around 9:30 +/-.

Chris, ( and anyone else from our NorCal group , though I see no other replies..) do you want to meet at noon in Gilroy at the usual coffee hut ? Or, if anyone is driving down from SF on 280 , we could meet earlier ( 11 am ) at the Edgewood Rd exit parking lot ..?
