i've worked with drummers when, in their hands, the sticks became deadly weapons.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, drumsticks are not expressly forbidden on airplanes; however, "airlines may or may not allow the additional carry-on item on their aircraft. Please check with your airline before you arrive at the airport." Knitting needles are permitted, so drumsticks should be also. To be safe, TSA suggests packing musical items in your checked luggage with a note about what they are to be used for.

Oh, the uneducated! Some people, who haven't learned better, think wine is just old grape juice. I'd venture that those disparaging the Dead catalog above have little knowledge of the actual material. Many of their songs, especially the acoustic material, are well crafted and firmly entrenched in the American folk, blues, and country traditions. I'd wager that those of you who poke fun at the Dead would be pleasantly surprised when actually exposed to these songs. Of course we can always play "pass the guitar" and everyone can play a song of their choice when it's their turn. ;-)

And my hood is not a cymbal. However, the last time I washed my car, the water on tne hood did bead up in the shape of Jerry Garcia's profile! hehehehe

Flash:

Ripple? Friend of the Devil? Uncle John's Band? Brokedown Palace? Candyman? Just about anything off of American Beauty or Workingman's Dead - the acoustic stuff. A great collection of songs. None of these showed you anything?

Touch of Grey was their most commercial hit.

nope - i could never get past the discordant vocals, and the piss poor production

that being said, i have never sat down and read the songs. my opinions have always been influenced by the performances. i probably miss out on a lot by formulating an opinion of something in its entirely, based solely on the first impression, and without dissecting it to its parts.

back on topic

it looks like we will have 40 people now, and quite possibly 20 968s

the women REALLY need to make their spa reservations. the spa will have to bring in a lot of staff to handle us, and they need the time to make those arrangements. i don't want to have a situation where there aren't the staff to handle everybody.

they're concerned perhaps that if you bring a string and use it tie the drum sticks together they're ...nunchucks ! prohibited carry-on weapon <_<

just have her call my wife. she has put up with me and this whole "car thing" for 9 years. it's because of her, and the like-minded women, that i have made the changes this year.

just waiting now on a few confirmations, but depending on drop-outs, we are looking at between 38 and 44 people, and between 17 and 21 968s.

i have a few more people to call, but i'm not sure how fruitful those calls will be. i may pick up another car or two, but i think we are looking at pretty much where we are.

i cannot stress enough how important it is to make all of the arrangements as early as possible. with a group this size, it is much harder to change things at the last minute. this is especially true of the spa. they have a limited number of rooms and staff. they are bringing in extra staff especially for us. they need all the time we can give them to do that.

also, i need to know if we have any vegetarians in the group

Is there anyone among those of us attending this event that has good writing and or photographic skills? It seems to me, if this to be the last event of this type, we should capture the moment, the people, and the cars in an article and submit it to Excellence or to Panorama for publication. Alternatively, we could just invite them to attend, but I'm guessing the lead time is too short. It seems a shame to lets the event pass into history without telling the story as it were. Thoughts?
