I was in the DIY section looking for instructions so I could install some parts I have in transit. However, the link to the .pdf instructions didn't work for me. Does anyone still have the "Side Cladding Rubber Replacement" instructions from Jeff Coe and Ben Johnson or the "Door Handle Gasket Replacement" .pdf by 968gene?

Appreciate any help.

I would love a copy of that, may I jump in? This is the rubber beading on the rocker panel and shark fin, yes? I'm considering replacing mine.

Tama, Got the .pdf. Great detailed instructions. Looks more involved than I hoped.

Cloud9...68, sent you an IM.

Thanks for the quick response,
Greg

Bebe,

Email is on the way. Let me know if you have trouble seeing the attachment. It's a pdf, not a Word document, as it turns out.

Shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

Does anyone have instructions for "the cutting technique" of installing the door handle gasket mentioned in that Door Gasket DIY thread? I am a little apprehensive of all the disassembly of the door and reported difficulty of getting things back together.

Is it not clear in the PDF? You just use scissors or a razor knife to cut a slit in the bottom side of the gasket and it slides right on. Quite a nice way to do it, and should have been standard IMHO.

The .pdf doesn't have instructions to cut the gasket anywhere that I read. I did a word search on "cut" and didn't find anything, in case I wasn't reading carefully enough.

I'm having trouble seeing where the modified "cutting" procedure departs from the .pdf procedure.

In the old thread, it said "The difference between doing the replacement with the cut, and proper replacement, is: the "cut" only requires removing one bolt, the one holding the door handle in place. The "proper" replacement requires doing that, plus removing the door handle electrical connector and the two mechanical links so the the handle can be completely separated from the car.

If you are not disconnecting anything from the door handle (and cutting the gasket so you can pass it around wires/rods) do you still have to take the door panel off?

I'm not trying to be dense, I just like to know exactly what I'm getting myself into before I start. I fear putting my car out of commission because I disassembled the door and can't get it back together.

If it's possible to just unscrew the 5mm screw, pull the handle away from the door, put the gasket around the rods, and put the handle back, I'd just as soon skip all the door panel disassembly. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

I just did this, really simple. Undo the hex bolt at the end of the door. Nicely hit the door handle toward the rear of the car (pretty sure that's the way I went :) until the door handle slides back. Pull out handle and let it hang on a rag. Get the larger gasket and make an Xacto knife cut right down the centre of the gasket on the flat side (rear). This part will be hidden under the handle when you screw it back on. Spread the gasket over the handle and fit the rim and the alignment knobs on the gasket into the handle and reverse the dis assembly procedure. I had to use a heat gun to warm the gasket and a small screw driver to get the rim of the gasket to go over the edge of the door handle as it's a tight fit.

I also cleaned the mechanism thoroughly with Brake Clean and put a small amount of good spray lube (not WD40) on the moving parts.

I like the short version. I have no desire to see what's inside my doors. Thanks Dave.

Yeah, you really don't want to take the door panels off if you don't have to. Getting everything to line up properly to re-install them is a very patience-trying exercise.

I also cut the handle gasket to install it. Used a razor blade and cut at bottom so it wouldn't show. Very easy, very nice.
Would someone send me the side cladding gasket replacement pdf file also? I'm very hesitant to do this without some instruction and best practices; expecting to break some fasteners...
Thanks

I just assumed even with good instructions I'd break fasteners and ordered new ones. Still waiting on the gaskets and cladding rubber/fasteners, but I should be ready to go when they arrive. It's great not to have to muddle through without instructions and advice.

BVA tought me that trick when I met him at Flash's last spring. Something about not taking anything apart (which is good) and the Concour judges would never spot it.

I have new side cladding gaskets which I purchased two years ago but have not been installed yet. When the splitter arrives, I will have it painted as well as the side claddings, at which time I wil replace the rubber gaskets.
