Jeez that's twice in two days! Ok let me reconstruct that errant sentence. Due to product unavailability I have been forced to rent what has been identified on this forum by I believe a male gender type as a chick vehicle! Lol

What, yet another Vette rental this year ?! Geez, just park it out of sight and ride with one of us on the tour.. ;-) ;-) Ths is 968 GTG , not a friggin girl scout " cars and cookies" event !

Calm down there Tonto! Read your own thread then deign to criticize! Lol. Vettes two years in a row, now please, give a brother a break. We east coast cats have some degree of creativity. Are there girl scouts coming? Cookies and cigars? Lol. With all due respect of course.

In my best soup nazi voice : No cigar for YOU ! But seriously, given how far you're traveling to join us you can rent a friggin' Pinto and you'd still be welcomed with open arms. :-)

It looks like I'll be able to make it. Yea!!!!

I don't know about California, but I rented a Camaro convertible from Hertz in Phoenix last weekend. Not a 968, but definitely not a Camry either. Not a bad car and it was my first experience with a heads-up display. Interesting.

Not sure yet. Senior Management (my wife) is on the fence on whether she'll be going (In that regard, should I send you $80 and get a refund if she doesn't go, send you $80 with no refund available, or send you $40 and pay the rest at the door if she does?). As I remember, everyone meets up in the morning, so if my wife comes along I imagine we'll drive down Friday night. I'm much better at early mornings than she is. I just sent Chris a message to get an idea of what time everyone is meeting up.

" Not a bad car and it was my first experience with a heads-up display. Interesting."

They are even more fun if they come equipped with a gunsight pipper and a couple of J-79s for power.

Who all is coming from NorCal? I want to determine a rendezvous point and departure time. Last year I was the only car from the east bay and so we rendezvoused over off of I-280 and headed south from there.

if anybody is on the fence, i just managed to work it out to extend the hotel discount rate. normally the room is 208. if you contact me, i can tell you what to do so you can get the room at 154. this is only while there are still vacancies. i had to release my hold on the remaining rooms, but they will still honor the rate if you go through me.

i need to move back to the bay area. i'm disappointed in the socal contingent this year. lame excuses, and an overall decrease in response. i know it's a lot farther for us, but still, this is such a great event that i find it hard to imagine passing it up. it's not like there is any decent wine down here around which to build an event.

on the subject of response, why is it that people don't seem to understand the definition of RSVP? it is not "let me know if you are coming". it is RESPOND!!!. you are supposed to respond one way or the other. i've sent out a few emails to a few people, and no response at all. not even a "thanks but no thanks", "take a hike" or anything.

hmmmm.

Here is a thought, maybe consider alternating between Paso and say the Santa Inez area. Some good wine made down that way, especially in the Los Olivos. Less driving for you and bit more us. Probably more expensive to stay, but worth talking about I think.

Dan - It may be that Bill and I are the only ones from the east bay that are coming, and he may decide to go down on Friday. If that is the case why not just meet at same place as last year and just go down on 280, a much more pleasant drive than the San Jose slog from my perspective. It is 200 miles from Alameda to Paso and I imagine about the same from where you are located. At an average of 70 mph that is a 3 hour run, so I'd build in a half hour cushion. We need to be in Paso by 11:30 which means we need to depart from you location by 8:15 latest of from Gilroy by 9:00 latest.

Somebody please take pity on a poor soul and send me some Saxum. I would be eternally grateful!!! All this talk of Paso Robles and Los Olivos is making me thirsty. I am deferring my trip to Paso this year in favor of a trip later this year to Willamette Valley...

Your kindness will be repaid!

Jay

i hope you enjoy the wine there more than i did. i had heard all the hype about oregon pinots, and was looking forward to seeing for myself what it was all about. unfortunately i was singularly underwhelmed by the pinots i tasted up there. i'm not a big pinot fan to begin with, but i like to keep a couple around here for those who are. i couldn't find a single bottle up there that i liked. maybe i just didn't go to the right ones? i don't know. it was a big PCA tour thing, led by a wine guy, so i assumed he knew what he was doing. beats me.

i'm definitely mixing it up this year for this event though. i think everybody will be pleased with the choices. i've been trying to get into one of these for 8 years now. not only are we finally getting in there, but i arranged for them to keep the tasting room open late just for us. i'm pretty stoked.
