having here - wish you were fun

seriously - after a long and tiring flight, i got here and made it to the meet and greet - great wine - lots of fun - the fun run today was beautiful - good sized group - a dozen or so cars - all different colors - very different than a california gathering - i forgot there was more than blue, black and white

looking forward to dinner tonight and tomorrow's drive

My wife Elke and I were only able to attend today's event but we enjoyed it. Highlight was the fun run where Rap was kissing Jay's back bumper (the lead car) and I was kissing Rap's back bumper. with Darryl right behind me, while we were going 85 - er, I mean 45 mph in the countryside. Well, I definitely blew the carbon out of my garage queen and broke 14,000 miles during the fun run - lol! Great bunch of guys and gals, thanks to Jay for hosting and Bob for flying out for the event. I had not heard that Pete had closed down RS Barn, this is a definite loss to the 968 community, but I understand his reasons.

Could only make it today (Saturday) - first run for us, lots of fun. Lost the group but had Jim and Flash in front of us, so it was just our two cars on our own route the whole time. Good times. Lunch and walk around Newtown were really nice too. Good to see everyone again, thanks guys for putting this together. Didn't have a chance to take good pictures of all the cars together but here is one of our little pal, having a blast during the fun run... Thanks again Jay for all your efforts :)

Thank you Jay for setting up this weekend. I really enjoyed the drives, meeting new people and sharing the meals. We left today's run because we were so close to home, Beth had work to do and we had lost the group after passing Cafferty road three times. We figured we would just wait for the group to return once more but it did not. According to the map there was one outlet that you must have found because you made it to 611. Anyway, I thought I might catch up tot he group after ward but I was too far behind. I would like to have made lunch once more. Anyway, it was a great time. Thank you to all. Thank yo once more to Jay and to Melva. It was a pleasure meeting you.

Thanks Mitch (the map man) for getting us back on track ;) Daryl, Thanks for the awesome car cleanup ! We will have to make another run to pick up the two covered bridges that Jay owes us :P Looking forward to the next meet ! Rico

Thanks to Jay for organizing this cool event! Thanks to all the attendees, well, for attending!

Even though I was only there for a couple of hours, I had a good time meeting new 968 faces and reconnecting with some of the "older" guard...

To top everything off for me - A couple and their son came into the parking lot right as everyone was about to leave for the Saturday fun run - The mom came up to me and asked if they could get a picture of their son next to the yellow cab before it left. I let her know the cab was mine and by all means, a pic would be excellent! I offered to have the son sit behind the wheel, but he was too shy... B) They thought the gathering of our lovely rides was beyond awesome!

Pretty cool day all tolled- weather was damn near perfect too! Nice, low humidity and low pollen count for the left coasters!!

Melva and I would like to thank everyone who took a whole or part of their weekend to join us and make "Takin' it to the Street" a very enjoyable event. We loved hosting you all, and having everyone pitch in made it very easy to accomodate everyone who came for the festivities.

In all, we had the chance to view 15 individual 968s, and met a total of 28 individuals. 2 cars showed up from the local PCA posting that I had never met before, the Wimbeldon Green Cab driven by Dave (with Maggie) and the co-piloted black cab by Joe (Asher on PCA Forum) and wife, who go us safely back to Route 611 when we got a bit turned around, and around, and around  . I calculate that we polished off a minumum of 15 bottles of wine, a very important statistic.

Here's my best recollection of the list:

Jay and Melva (94SilverCab)
Bob Larson (Flash)
Darryl and Christine (Darryl)
Rico and Lynn (EBarone968)
Bob Piccone (RAP)
Andrew Murray (Pure and Simple)
Mitch and Elizabeth (DAnderson)
Bob Schmidt (BobSchmidt)
Jim and Stephanie (Walker18)
Don and Elke Hassenbein (Redbaron)
Jeff Coe (Jeff968)
Jim Craig (Biotechee)
Celine and Andy (Spin)
Sean and Fiance' (SWMIC)
Dave and Maggie (PCA Reisentoter)
Joe and Katherine (Asher681, PCA - Reisentoter)
Max (Newly of Provost Motorsports)
Jerry Compagna (VGM911) (the 986 got lost on the fun run, never to be heard from again, hope you made it home safely).

Asking about the next event is a bit like asking a new mother when she is going to get pregnant again...I need a little time to reflect and conjure a bigger, better gathering for next time...and soothe an aching hangover  .

Thanks to all that came, and the many that sent well wishes from far and wide,

Jay

Hats off to Jay and Melva. For a newcomer to the group I was impressed at the immediate warm reception I received. Dramatically different from my local. Perhaps it is the car? It made me feel like I had been part of the group for years. It is always interesting to put a face to a name! Certainly makes it even more interesting when chatting on the forum. The collective knowledge and experience takes a bit of getting used to to a newbie but thats a time issue. For anyone that is new like myself or just hasn't tried one of these, it is worth the effort and a blast. Thanks again guys and gals for an enjoyable 968 weekend.

I finally got around to downsizing some photos from the event and they are attached.

Wife still recuperating from the fun ride - lol, but I really had a blast. As an "old timer" it is great to see the younger owners (for me that is anyone under 70) and enjoyed the chats about former life as a Executive in NYC, how to mount the Euro lenses without a dremel tool, converting a license opening bra to a non license opening bra and much more! Jay, you are not only a Colonel in the sexual revolution, you are also the General of 968 events! Look forward to attending next year!

Jay & Melva,

Thanks for organizing and hosting such a nice event. Even though we only did the Saturday fun-run and lunch, we really enjoyed it. It was also very nice meeting the rest of the group and seeing a dozen or so 968s in a row driving down the road.

Flash has me thinking about that huffer!

Hope to see you all again soon,

Shawn

Don asked on a different thread about those that had served in the Armed Forces, I told him I was a Colonel in the Sexual Revolution... .

My Father was a Captain in the Confederate Air Force.
