WTB - Rear hatch glass assembly or frame
#1

Having discovered a damaged hatch glass frame as the source of exhaust in my car's cabin (GRRR!), I need a new assembly or frame at some point.

If anyone knows of a brand newly wrecked 968 or someone putting Lexan in the back of one, let me know.

Until then, its a creative sealing project with spongy Poron stuff.

Cheers,

I am goign lexan, but I am unsure of what you want? I would like to keep my frame, but my understanding is that a 944 frame is the same, so I could sell you my deal and go with a 944 frame with my spoiler and winglets. Let me know what you want...I can get you the glass anytime!

Hey whackie -

I need the frame especially. The problem is......

it doesn't look like the glass can be separated from the frame without huge, huge effort. Therefore, I'm looking for the whole thing. I still have to check in with the glass experts to understand separating glass from frame......but if the 944 lexan and frame fits your car, it would probably be a lot easier. PM coming.

Is Lexan legal for a street car, or is it really just for the track? I've seen a few inexpensive Lexan ones on ebay lately. When it comes time to seal the hatch, it would be nice to lose a few pounds while I'm at it.

Thats my intention as well. I don't see why it wouldn't be. The only window that is really important in an accident is the windshield...maybe the sides if you really want to get in a messy accident...but the rear? The only real downside I can find is that you loose your rear defroster, but I am yet to have used it.

Actually, here's an acrylic version that supposedly doesn't scratch up like Lexan....

In addition to the defrost, I wonder if you'd lose the wiper too. My defrost cable has been broken for a while now and I haven't missed it much, but I do use the wiper now and then.

You might not lose the wiper if they can put the appropriate hole in the acryllic and if you use your stock hatch frame. I sent the seller a question and I'll see what they say.

Great head's up on that, thanks!

The late 944/951 frame and glass apparently are the same but I think the hinges may be in a different spot and I'm not sure that the 968 spoiler will fit easily. I'd like to know the answers to this from someone who has BTDT though.

Some advice - having just gone through this fiasco...

You *might* be able to get the glass removed from the frame, but those are slim chances at best...

Your idea of lexan on a old frame seems okay - are you aware that for about $800 you can get a complete used 968/944S2 frame complete with glass?

I have a 968 frame but it's promised to another guy. I contacted him and if I don't hear from him by Friday I'll let you know...
