WTB: New or nearly new factory Shift knob/boot
#1

Hi gang -

I've decided to revert to the factory style shift knob and boot combo. Anyone have one in black either new or nearly new in condition? I'd rather not have to order a factory one......

IIRC, Performance has what you want - without the pattern inset - for a pretty reasonable price.

Excellent, thanks! I looked at the performance products version, not sure I'm familiar with IIRC. Who is that exactly?

Best,

No problem, sorry for the confusion - I used to fall into the same traps until I got used to some of the shortcut jargon. I hope the Performance item fits your needs. When I redid my shift knob, I purchased the boot from performance to put on the OEM knob. It was such a pain that I was sorry I hadn't purchased the assembly.

What are you reverting from? "View Vehicles" is dead.

A speed-6 shortened gear lever and Momo knob. I like the look and weight of the factory piece, and I want to go a different route for an SSK. I want one of the out of car pieces, like 9racing and 944racing sold, but I can't seem to find them. Factory for now.

I have a 996 aluminum 6 speed knob with modified boot to fit the 968 - but its beige. I was going to swap it into my car, but I decided to keep the rootwood knob that came from the factory. Good luck!

Hmmm....that might not be a bad route for me. My interior is tan, but not sure if its the same shade. Do you have a dig pic you could send me?

Cheers,

Hi,

Sure I'll try to get it to you as soon as possible, Monday at the latest. Take care.

Pictures as promised. Sorry for the photos - the lighting in my apartment isn't very good. There is a small nick on the side of the shifter and a small scratch in the aluminum next to the crest (see the pictures). I have never fitted this shifter to the car, but I am positive that it will fit. The boot was modified to fit the whole 924/944/968 range. The knob is an original from a 996. Take care

I went to a porsche parts shop today and asked how much a new shifter would be for the 968. $450! X_x It's a special order item that needs to be brought in from germany, ugh. I think I'll look for aftermarket knobs first.

I have a very nice shift knob with boot. Condition is very good. Can post a pic when I get home from work tonite.

How about $100.00 including shipping. Paypal prefered, whatever is convienant.

I went with the AGLA boot and knob replacement from Paragon Products. If I remember correctly you have to reuse your shift pattern button or order a new one.

Hmm, sounds like a good deal, better than what they want for a brand new one. If it looks better than the one I have right now, I'll take it! heh, I just need to open up a paypal account. Figure it might come in handy in the future as well.

[post="20876"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Dude, you don't need a whole new shifter, you just need to replace the leather shifter boot. Paragon and Performance Products both carry 'em.

I put this one together with an Agla boot, to use on the 968, but can't stop the vibration. Any ideas?

Have you tried filling in the space between the shift lever and the knob with liquid rubber/silicon seal and allowing it to harden before reinstalling? It seems to me that would eleminate any vibration/noise. You would need to remove the shift lever from the car in order to fill in the space with silicon and keep it upside down until the rubber cured (overnight?). Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
