Flash, I am thinking about using the Lindsey Racing adjustable motor mounts to prevent the strut brace rubbing on the vanity cover. They lower the engine about 1/2 inch and that should give plenty of room for the brace to clear. I have a used Racing Dynamics Strut Brace installed (with the vanity cover removed until I lower the engine). Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

not a bad solution, and considered it myself - may still use them too, though to tighten things up more than just height adjustment - however, as this brace has caused enough problems in fitment, i thought i would address it, not only for myself, but others as well - i would also like a more attractive look and finish - i have the answer, but need to spend the time working out the prototype

i am able to dedicate about 2 and a half weeks to my car, begining thursday, so i should get quite a bit done in the way of wrapping up these projects

Todd, I finally got the Lindsey Racing Ultra Mounts installed in my 968 and it does not lower the engine enough to clear the Vanity Cover.........big disappointment. It is simple to remove and install the bar so I will probably take it off for street use and install it the night before a track event. These mounts are a lot stiffer than the original Porsche mounts are and you feel the engine vibration much more than with the stock mounts. After the engine (and mounts) warm up it isn't bad, but when starting up on a cold morning you might think that your belts need adjusting. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Bob,

I bought the Lindsey mounts as well to lower my engine so that my Dynatech bar would clear the vanity cover. Right now the bar is installed and it is tight to the vanity cover - I mean you couldn't get a piece of paper between them. Are you saying the adjustable mounts won't make a difference?

Eric, the "adjustable mounts" consist of two spacers which are 5 mm thick each. by leaving the spacers out when you install the mounts the engine will be 10 mm lower than it was with the spacers in. This was not enough to allow my Racing Dynamics Strut Brace to clear the vanity cover, I got more clearance by filing, sanding and polishing the strut brace. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

With the Racing Dynamics brace was it a case that the bar wouldn't clear the vanity cover at all - ie: it was about 10mm too low - or was it a case that the mounts didn't lower the car from stock? I guess what I am asking is are the Lindsey mounts with both spacers in place the same height as the stock mounts? Or are the Lindsey mounts the same height as stock when the spacers are removed?

In my situation I can get the bar on with the vanity cover in place however they are touching and the concern is that when the engine rocks under load the vanity cover will break or wear on the bar. I was hoping that dropping the engine a little would give me sufficient clearance to avoid contact between the bar and the cover even when the engine is rocking during normal driving.

Out of curiosity, how much space between the cover and the bar would you say is sufficient? 5mm? 10mm?

Sadly, I did not measure the Lindsey Ultra Mounts and compare them with a set of new stock mounts. Without a direct comparison I think they are the same height with the spacers in as the stock mounts are. Yes, with the spacers out they lower the engine 10 mm from the stock height with new stock mounts. The Racing Dynamics strut brace would not clear the vanit cover at all. Without the vanity cover in place the strut brace just touched the spark plug wires. With the Lindsey Racing Ultra Mounts the engine does not rock at all. My old mounts were worn out and one was completely separated. They allowed quite a bit of engine rock. I have just enough clearance now to slide a six inch steel rule between the vanity plate and the strut brace and that is enough. As long as there is no contact I am happy. good luck, Bob Blackwell.
