brings up a question:

How do cam gear teeth get into oil pan?...they don't look like cam chain gear teeth(just the tips?)....and cam sprokets are outside the oilways...

not from a 968? oil pump gears?

The PO had lost all the teeth on one cam and one tooth off the other. The one with all the teeth gone looked like they'd worn away to almost nothing, not broken off, so he never bothered to look for them. The tooth from the other cam was sitting under the valve cover. How they ended up in the bottom of my oil pan is anyone's guess.

There is an oil gally in the head for oil to drain back to the pan. We've dropped bolts there and had to fish them out with a long magnet
