I have a new sound coming from behind the passenger kick panel area. When cold in third gear at 30 mph if I floor the throttle I hear the sound. If you say "BOOP" in a mid tone falsetto, well thats the sound. As the car warms the sound diminishes, and finally goes away alltogether. The car can make the sound under acceleration at other speeds, but is most repeatable at 30 in third. I had my wife ride with me tonight to verify the sound was not coming from the drivetrain area.
Any ideas?

only 3rd gear?
does it make any noise at all when you abruptly let off the throttle?

No noise letting off throttle. Happens only under accceleration. Have heard sound in other gears but is most repeatable in third at 30.

i am suspecting that it is an exhaust pop related to a vacuum leak. 3rd gear at 30 puts a large load on the motor and draws high vacuum.

Sounds like big fun trying to track that down. When cold the sound can last about 3 seconds. As it warms it diminishes in length finally stopping altogether. Would thay be consistent with a vacuum problem?

The exhaust does run on that side, and the sound happens under load, wonder if a sensor might be involved.

Motor mounts? Does it vibrate at all when idling?

Hmm sometimes things shift under hard acceleration, and the mounts can make a similar sound. Usually you can tell from excess vibration though. Any way you can make a video with your phone or cam? Having a hard time from your description alone trying to think what it could be. It lasting for 3 seconds has me wondering. Ive had ECU's do funny things in these cars.

Got a slightly different version of the sound today. Kind of like two parts vibrating together. Maybe a loose heatshield or something similar. Going to see what I can see when things cool off.
