#1

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a coil for my 94 968? They don't carry them anymore apparently. Thanks

Not inexpensive for the genuine article, but there are other coils available that will work. Here name two places that have them:

The coil has a Bosch part number on it, go to any Bosch service centre and they will sort you out

Bosch told me they no longer make them. Now what?

Well, that's unfortunately one of the difficulties of owning and maintaining an older Porsche with very limited production.

I've seen used ones available on ebay and 944 websites.

You might also try Canada too: https://www.thewrenchmonkey.ca

If you can't find one there, I'd just get a coil for a VW that has the right resistance/Ohms and voltage (14 volts). As far as I know, there's nothing special about the 968's coil...they are used on the 944s, 928s, etc.

Did you ever find a coil?

Looks like Sunset has one: https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/oem-p...dhcw%3D%3D

Or as an alternative (check the resistance first, so you don't damage the ignition control module or some expensive ignition system parts): https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/ZS172

Well it's not the coil. Was hoping that was the problem but it's still doing it. It starts when it's cold, but then when it warms up it will just stop running. Right in the middle of driving somewhere. Can't figure out the issue???

Sounds like my Alfa when my ignition switch went bad. Did the shop not check the coil before they replaced it? Not much can go wrong with them, they’re either in spec or they’re not.

I hate to say it, but I think you have your car in the wrong shop

Not much to go wrong in these ignition systems, and they obviously cant use a multimeter

As asked on the other post does the tacho needle bounce when it wont start

You might want to check/replace your DME relay. On a previous 968 20 years ago I had this problem where the engine would just die and not do anything at random times. Usually it was in the middle of a trip, engine warm and running fine up to that point. It turned out to be this $20 relay that plugs into the relay box under the hood. Ever since then I keep a spare in the glove box, though so far I haven't needed it.

What a dimwit I am. I ordered a SSR from Tech9 last month. Two, actually. (I guess I double clicked and didn’t notice)

So yesterday, I looked for the one (I thought) I didn’t return and couldn’t find it anywhere. Apparently, I was distracted when I shipped the extra one back to Tech9 and didn’t notice. I couldn’t find my shipping tape so I put them both 8n the box to take to the shipping joint and spaced out.  :whine:
