Whats going on in LA?
#1

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, didn't know were to post

Just arrived in PalmSprings. Will spend this years X-mas holiday in California. First in Palm Springs and then in LA. Also thinking of a tour to Vegas and Grand Canyon. Will go back to Sweden on january 9.

Posting here for any info on events in California.

Any info is appreciated.

Are there any good museums, shops or something else I should visit while here?

Lastly, not car related. Is it a good or bad idea to go to Grand Canyon this time of year?

I was going to second the Petersen museum recommendation but it's closed ?! When did that happen and why ? Pity. Have not been to the others flash mentioned. L.A. is so vast and has so many points of interest, I would not even know where to start - but, skip the Holywood Blvd scene , it's pure tourist crap at its worst IMO, however , do take a leisurely drive through Beverly Hills, both residential and the commercial segments, take Sunset Blvd, down to PCH, maybe stop in Sta Monica, or drive up to Old Town Pasadena , and the Norton Simon museum there is also good to see, if you find your way even further south of LA about 45 miles away ( but that 45 miles can be a 4 hour drive most afternoons, LOL ) Orange County has some great scenic spots, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach to name just a few, the South Coast Plaza shopping center in Costa Mesa is great ( bunch of high end stores rivaling the Rodeo Drive ones ) , and speaking of the ex- Petersen museum that entire " miracle mile " on mid- Wilshire has various other spots you could enjoy like the La Brea Tar Pits museum which is very interesting and unique. The new " LA Live " downtown scene is hopping lately, plenty of bars and restaurants, but the prices are trying to catch up with tne Holywood scene hype where a $ 15 - $ 20 cocktail is the norm .

As for visiting the Garnd Canyon, does not matter what time of the year it is, always a spectacular view to take in. May get some snow and even fog this time of the year, but worth the detour if you're driving through that part of Az anyway..

Petersen is closed till next December for major renovations, some of the cars have scattered till then, like some of the movies cars on display at the Reagan Library. The C&C Irvine event had it's last event last Saturday, few rumors on why it's dead, but I would expect someone will start it up again at a new location in the future.

The Mullin collection is well worth the trip, it's the ultimate toys for men collection.

Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills is fun: http://www.supercarsunday.com/

My brother was in town recently, so I played tour guide. A few things to see: Mulholland Drive, both Getty Museums, Venice Beach, Greystone Mansion, Third Street Promenade, Nobu in Malibu.

Pelican Parts is in LA. If you place an order online, you can pick it up 48 hours later from their will-call.

yeah - not a real "shop" per se though. you can do the same thing at any dealership, and there are a few of those within reach here.

also, recently losing the love with pelican. i just ordered an alternator from them. showed up without a fan or pulley. arrrrgh! didn't say that on the website, nor when i ordered it over the phone. i want it complete.

Yeah, not really a shop but thought maybe he was looking for something cheaper here than in Sweden?

I tried to order a belt kit just today from Pelican but I could not find Gates belts on their site. Ended up placing my order with Paragon, where it was also cheaper, and 2 day USPS shipping only $25.
