What should be lit up?
#1

Another one of my winter projects is to sort out the dodgy lighting in my car.

I know I need to replace the light in the clock and the outside temperature display, but I have a couple of questions that I hope you guys can help me find answers too.

- Should the window switches be lit up?
- Should the buttons on the center console such as the mirror adjustment and headlight adjustment wheel be lit up?
- I'm guessing the cigarette lighter should not be lit up, but who knows?

I think the rest of the lighting works correctly, but if someone has a shot of a 968 interior at night with the lights on that would also help a lot

Cig lighter does not light nor do any of the console switches. The climate control has lights for the buttons but not the round knobs. There is also a light behind the defrost symbol at the top of the vertical vent slider above the two big middle air vents. I can try to snap a pic at my office later today. Hope that helps!

Cig lighter does light up - the plastic ring lights up. there is a bulb in there that is easy to replace. All the other switches on the centre console and doors that you mention do not light up. Only the lock switch on the center console lights up.

Thanks guys, I guess my lighting situation is not as bad as I thought. The newer cars have lights everywhere and that made me think I was missing lots of lights, but looks like it is only 3 bulbs that needs replacing!

I wish the window switches would light up... Wonder if it is possible to modify them?

Would also love to have the shift pattern light up as well, like in some BMW's...

+1 on the window swithes

There was a topic here a couple of months ago with an aftermarket gear knob with a lighted pattern. Looked pretty good too.

That gear shift knob is a whole assembly, IIRC, including the boot and boot frame. Pretty good deal and available on Ebay for around $120 or so I think. I believe the seller/maker was based in Germany or another nearby country. Looked rather nice, but I would prefer to have a "lit" OEM knob. I'm a pain in the @ss like that!

Yes I bought the unit from Germany, to replace the worn 'classic grey' gear shift boot/knob, the centre glows red, but the gear knob itself, is not a OEM type fit, so it rattles and whines against the inserted shift bar. so after a make over from a leather dye kit (E-bay) Im going back to the stock item.
