What's VDO stand for?
#1

Still not allowed to start topics in most catagories, so I'm dropping it in here. What's the VDO stand for on the dash between the speed and tach?

The company that makes the gauge cluster. All of the gauges and the senders are made by VDO. The make gauges and what not for a lot of car manufacturers.

United German Tachometer Company. Literally, VDO stands for Vereinigte (United) DEUTA (Duetsche Tachometerwerke GmbH or German Tachometer Limited) ..on the web

or Veees Dings Overpriced

or Vaginal deOdorant

or, in my case, Very Dumb Overbooster

or, given the direction of this thread.. very demented observations ?

But anyway, I also always wondered what that acronym represented. So, Vereinigte (United) DEUTA (Duetsche ) makes sense but how does ( Tachometerwerke ) convert to an O ? Is Odometerwerke the former company name before an acqusition by the Tachometer folks , but the old company name remained intact because it would have been too expensive to change all the logos ?

Or, maybe VDO is simply the result of the Mfg's marketing to women buyers; feeling and seeing those revvs while driving this car will give you a Very Delightful O
