Very strange piece of "work" this ....... while I was replacing the lower grill I noticed the spots and indicators didn't align smoothly. Having refixed the streamlining plates etc and looking at the new grill, I again thought they looked a little strange. On closer inspection yesterday I saw the writing on the lenses was upside down! It occurred to me the spots had been mounted on the wrong side. 5 minutes later I'd swapped the spots over and now all looks neat and aligned. I've had this car for eight years so, a) who did this in the first place, and b) how come I took eight years to notice??

Sad but true  :whine:

Free time at this time of the year is scarce......

Paint inside of PORSCHE letters atop of engine - great difficulty removing the caliper paint. In the end I had to use sandpaper as the paint was uneffected by the usual products. Not even sure I like the final finish (letters in yellow) but job done for now.

Boot/trunk lock now works. Two problems:

1. The footwell switch. It acts as a junction box as well as a switch, but both through the connecter writhin the switch. The rocker had become asymmetrically worn and sloppy, and wasn't connecting either the junction or switched point. The asymmetry is because the spring loading is to one side of the rocker. Inexplicably there is an identical hole for that spring on the opposite side of the rocker. The solution was to remove the rocker top, swap the spring into the other hole, and turn the rocker around and relocate it. Obviously taking the opportunity to clean and lubricate the insides of the switch. It feels sharp now, but the next time it goes sloppy it will need a new replacement.

2. One of the contacts within the actuator had spread, moving partially off the metal contact and on to the plastic. There was also a lot of grease over everything inside the housing. After typical cleaning and bending, all rotates smoothly andreliably.

Typical old car maintenance!

Replaced screen and rubber connector strip on ambient temp. display, now a 99% improvement ..... unfortunately one bar is permantly on so there's a fault on the board. For now I'm going to live with that. I may go back later as access is pretty straightforward.

Anyone got the cct diagram?

Retro fit the cruise control from my 944S2. After some adjustment all works fine. Putting together a 'how to' in coordination with Waylander.

you might find if you take it to bits and move the rubber connector slightly that will clear, i have done a couple of them and they can be very fiddly

In fact I still have two spares in a box somewhere

Thanks Waylander but I had the screen and rubber strip in and out a few times, always the same fault. I think these LEDs are usually dragged to earth in order to turn them on, so I suspect a transistor has crashed. .... oh for more "toys" in my workshop!!

Nothing,

In fact I haven't driven the car in about a year. It is started regularly, but I really wish I could sell it for what I have in it.

Someone that can love this car needs this car. I don't have any time to drive it.

Disassembled, cleaned and lubed my screeching front wiper motor, now purrs like a kitten instead of a screaming Banshee.

Fixed my inconsistent power door lock operation by removing passenger door panel and greasing the mechanism.  It has been working flawlessly since.  Also took a 50 mile country drive yesterday with 70 degree sunny weather.

Replaced my popped PAS hose, changed the oil, fitted an oil temp sensor in the sump using the turbo return bolt hole which is the other side to the drain plug, fitted my 3 VDO gauges in the hole where the raspberry pi ones were

Had the Pirelli Nero GT tyres fitted, and the TPMS sensors, now drives like a different car

The tyres, sensors and fitting cost me £367 = $469 for all four wheels

It is. I had such high hopes for the car. I just don't have time to drive it. Always working. The beetle hasn't been driven in over a year and the harley 2 or maybe more.

I hate that they sit, but it is what it is. The ac needs recharged in the porsche and I found 7 cans of r12, so that will get done and the top is frozen down, so it's probably a relay that's stuck. My guy was supposed to get to it, but he is really busy. By the time it gets spiffed up it will be too hot down here to drive it.

I wish I could sell it all for close to what I have invested.

If I had it to do over again, I never would have bought the car. I have about $17K in the car with the initial purchase and the repairs. I probably would take 15 to get my garage back.

Oh well, maybe it will hit bring a trailer or ebay when I get time.

I spend some new front tires and I bought a second air box, only to test that airbox modification idea. Does anyone has experience on it and can help whats essential to know?

Hi Karpo, greetings from Southern France.  The weather is having a laugh at us ....... beautiful days, but we are not allowed out  :whine:

Use the search function for "airbox mods", I think the thread is in the forum "Sounds like music", or some such name.  Anyway the search box at the top of the screen will take you there.

Did you get your airbox from ebay?  Have fun!

Hi Robo,

Thanks for your comment. Ill look at it.

So true. In Germany its mainly aloud to go out by car, only the coasts and parts from Bavaria are closed by the government. Due to closed shops and attractions the people are mainly still at home and the streets are empty. We will see whats happening next. Fingers crossed for all of you.

With a friend of mine, I bought some 944 and 968 stuff last week and there was an 968 airbox with. So I would like to test that mod and if it isnt working or suitable I will go back to the regular airbox. Does Porsche still sell those airboxes? Im not sure about it.

Ive been working with colleagues of mine in France, its close the campaign region 1,5 hours from Paris and thats such a nice landscape already.

- put new OEM rotors, expensive as hell for M030, new fluid, bleeding was  unbelievably fast. new TRW pads, wear indicators from Bosch(much cheaper tan OEM, same product)

- ordered new all-aluminium radiator, front sway bar bushes, Polyurethane steering rack bushes

- next week hopefully timing belt job and variocam job.

also ordered some stuff for 951
