What are your thoughts on this possible purchase?
#1

Hi - I'm a new member here, and I'm looking for a 944/968 - I'm looking for something that I can autocross and take to the track. It doesn't need to be track prepped, but that would be a bonus. I've come across this 968 as a possibility I'm going to check it out next week - I'd be interested in hearing what folks here with more experience than I think about it.

It's a 93 coupe with 61k. Midnight Metallic blue. For the last 4 years it's been used as a PCA driver's ed car. It has all records since new. Full DAS, six-point welded cage, two Sparco seats (Evo2, Pro2000), Leaf six-point belts, racing pedals, MOMO hub, Sparco wheel with quick release, Blaupunkt stereo, air conditioning, on-board extinguisher. Most of the stock interior is available as well.

Modifications: KLA strut brace, Turbo S OEM front spoiler, painted factory rear spoiler, RS Barn exhaust, air-box mod and chip. Kinesis 17 x 8.5 and 17 x 10 K57 wheels with fairly new Pilot Sport Cups. Also included are second set of 17-inch OEM Cup 1 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sports.

Maintenance highlights : New clutch, pressure plate and lightweight flywheel, master cylinder and release bearing. New front tie rods, all belts and pulleys, new engine mounts, new rotors, new oil-pan gasket, power-steering hoses, rear diff gasket. New PFC 97 brake pads with 10 miles on them... Absolutely no leaks. Whatever the car needed, it received according to previous owner.

Asking $14,750.

Thoughts?

Sounds to me like a buy. They have maintained it well for drivers ED and put on quite a few of the upgrades we all aspire to and that add up to a lot of extra $$ in the long run. The mileage is also good for a car that age. Plus it's Midnight Blue which is the fastest colour despite what the black camp says

By your description, it sounds like its worth 17,500

That said, I'd offer 14 even. You can buy a reliable 68 for around 10K but the extras both on and includedd on this one makes it a very nice deal. Have a PPi done and if all checks out make the offer.

The only downside is that its blue. Therefore offer him 13,200 for lack of power do to an off color ratio.

Never trust a guy who can't spell "due", they are obviously slower.

Your back to 14K even.

Looks like a pretty good deal to me. There is also this one, but it is on the other side of the country. http://www.968forums.com/topic/10172-199...968-coupe/

Thanks for the replies - hopefully it lives up to billing - so far the first two 944s that I checked out were not so good.

Here's a couple of photos the seller sent...

I spy an Ontario licence plate in the first couple of photos. I'd guess that's MOSPORT he's racing at if he's in Canada (I've never been there but us canadians don't have that many tracks to choose from). Was this originally a canadian car do you know? I also notice the headlight washers which I believe all or most Canadian bound cars received as part of some cold weather package. Not that it makes any difference at all but just adds to the story. Great looking car, looks like it would be a great track car for you.

Yes - this was originally a Canadian car, that was brought into the US about a year ago - the speedo apparently is in mph, so I'm not sure how that works. I brought a mustang into the US from Canada, and it has a kmph rather than a mph speedo, so I don't know if that was switched over or what.

I'll let y'all know how it turns out next week.

Two of the 1993 F8 Midnight blue M030 cars went to Canada. Both cars have sport seats. The car where the last 3 digits of the VIN are 323 HAS limited slip and a black and light gray partial leather interior. The car where the last 3 digits of the VIN are 393 has the classic gray and light gray partial leather interior and a painted rear spoiler. It did NOT come from the factory with limited slip. I'm not sure which car this, looks like 393, but it is one of the two. Good luck.

It looks like the hood, and front bumper cover are dull, compared to the fenders in the last picture. Id take a good look at the paint, and make sure its never been hit, and if it has make sure it was repaired properly.

Wow Jeff - you da man! Last 3 digits are 393 and it does come with the painted rear spoiler. The seller indicated that it does have a LSD so it's interesting to hear that it didn't come from the factory like that. Is there any way I can figure out if it has a limited slip (short of dumping the clutch at 5000 rpms!).

Do you have any other info on this car.

Thanks!

Looks real pretty. Since I'm not a racer, and I don't know much about it, I have to wonder: with all that racing stuff (roll cage, fire extinguisher, six point belts, etc.) what pray tell is the Blaupunkt stereo for? Was A.J. Foyt listening to Hank Williams as he was winning the Indy 500? Did Jim Hall's Chaparrals sport not only an automatic tranny but a high powered 8 track player too? lol

Huh, really? Looks like a respray in the pic. Why would someone wrap the hood, and bumper, but not the fender fronts?

Yes - it's a 3M matte black wrap that was put on there - I'm assuming it's to help with rock chips, otherwise I'm not sure what the deal is with that. I think since the blue is so dark, it blends in - idk - I'll know better how it looks once I see it in person - it's not a deal breaker, but I'd probably prefer it without it.

Ahhh, ok. Its a matte wrap. Makes sense now. Yeah, I dont think Id like the matte look. Kinda defeats the purpose of such a beautiful finish.

Looks good. Really good. Looking at that last pic, I would only change the seats.
