If your car is 20 years old why are you worrying about the seats so much? Drive and enjoy. I think your color is cool! Clean and condition them regularly and they should be fine.

So it's been decided. No seat covers! I'll spend the money on a new steering wheel instead. That's something that I will see and touch. I would go the obvious CS steering wheel route, but I sort of want to keep an airbag. Plenty of options.

been there done that. hated them in the summer. way too hot. pulled them off. that's how i found out about the damage to the seat below. it was like somebody had taken sandpaper to them.

for $500 each you could reupholster the seats in any color you wanted.



seriously, i think you would be happier if you just found a set of black seats, and parked those uber rare ones. you would have the toning down of the interior you want, with no covers to deal with, and a really clean look. they aren't too hard to find. for example (no affiliation):

Agree......remove the Magenta seats, go Black....(insert old joke here).....as they are much easier to find and easier to re-do. The going rate to have a shop re-do a pair of seats is about 1500.00 no matter what the color. I don't know if the Magenta is still available or not. I'm stopping by my upholsterer soon as I need 'light gray" which most people mistake for the old 944 color of "Linen" and they are not even close to each other. If the Magenta leather is NLA, I'd hate to mess those up and not be able to recover them in the correct color.



If you do go Black, it's a great change to upgrade.....that's how/why I got the heated sport seats that are now in my Coupe.

post # 49- Daryl, I have magenta seats with grey piping but they were neglected, begining to show cracks and some fade. What would u suggest is the best thing to do to restore them. Start with leather cleaner, conditioner, etc.? I planned on having them dyed in the future if that can be done in magenta but for now I just want to preserve what I have. Any info greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can always start with a good cleaning and then apply a conditioner. If the cracking and fading is too far along, having a leather repair specialist fill in the cracks and dye the seats is the next step. The newer dyes are pretty permanent, don't rub off as easily and therefore last longer. I have a guy who comes here to my place and does wonderful work. Much cheaper than reupholstering but keep in mind, it is a "repair" and opposed to new leather.

With a little bit of modification, the 996 / 986 Boxster 3-spoke steering wheel can be fitted into the 968. Search on it - you'll find it somewhere... eventually I'll get to it for my own car. For now, I love the feel of the CS wheel. It's really so much more substantial than the stock wheel.
