968 Trailer Hitch
#1

OK, I need to be able to hual a small trailer with 4 wheels and tires along with a jack, couple of lawn chairs and and umbrella to the Autocross track. I have read all of the posts on the board about what is available and the only thing I see is from Anchorman who bought a unit designed to carry a few bikes..............not really what I wanted. Went over to the other site and picked a few pics of homemade Hitch's made for 968's. 3 different versions..........1 attaches at 2 points....it slides over the bumper shocks and bolts up to the shock itself with the existing 2 bolts per side. Tongue weight would probably be OK but I would think the stopping and starting might fatigue those 2 mounyting points. The second version has 2 slightly different ways of mounting to the same points. One uses a complete bar that goes behind the aluminum frame piece for further support and takes the torque off of the 4 bolt mounting points distributing it over the length of the frame piece. Seems more than adequate to handle about 50 lbs of tongue weight and maybe 1000 lbs max trailer.
Feel free to chime in.....................

Nicely done! I applaud the ingenuity and I think you'll be good to go. Just inspect regularly for fatigue. I will take a rubber hammer and give my truck hitch a few wacks in all the mounting points to see if it's still solid.

You car interior thanks you

Have you seen the hitch in the PET list offered by Porsche? Never seen one in real life and wonder if there is some stash of them out there.

Actually, there is a post on the other site that shows pics of the Porsche hitch. Problem is that it costs about $1000 and there were anly a few to be had 5 years ago when those posts were made.
