1g in the flashmobile ?
#1

I was in SoCal most of this weekend, and since I had a couple of spare hours on

Sunday, I thought I'd go by Bob's house to see just how that 968 cab feels now after all of those mods..

BTW, great hosts that they are, Bob and Ayn just couldn't leave things alone and ran out to get some BBQ-feast goodies before I got there, which was a great and delicious way to end this trip, but I digress...

Ok, back to the topic: after taking his car for a spin in the canyon, on the way

back to my buddy's house that evening my 968 felt as if I was driving a Buick !

Don't get me wrong, I still think the car handles very well, it's just that by comparison ... well, there is no comparison ! That damn cab handles as if it rides on rails but not at the expense of any comfort - not sure how it's possible that it corners and sticks to the ground like one of those Malibu Grand Prix Go-Karts, and yet there are no rattles of any kind, no shaking, no flexing, no leaning, no vibration, and while still smooth, it feels so much more solid than anything I have ever driven or ridden in ! I would feel perfectly ok cruising in it across the country, while at the same time taking this baby around surly corners at full throttle without the least bit of concern about the car getting away from me, or doing exactly what I want it to do.

I'm most definitely putting the suspension mods Bob made to his car ( tailored to suit a coupe however ) on my to do list !!

Like a Buick.. huh? That's pretty extreme - Buick's have a soft marshmallow ride.

With the amount of time and $$ he has spent, your response isn't surprizing...

it was hysterical to watch dan as he drove my car - i told him to floor it and just leave it there, as we blasted through the canyon - he thought i was kidding - then he did it - the look on his face was priceless

lol - now he has left me a nasty message on my machine cursing me for letting him drive his car

and i'm still not done - i think it's STILL too mushy

yeah, the Buick thing.. an exaggerated illustration for sure, but the difference in handling was so "night and day", for the first time I was / am actually disappointed in how my car rides

the silver lining: my butt-o-meter still leads me to believe I'll edge the flashmobile at the end of a 0 to 160 straight line run ( ok, let's say 0 to 155, if you factor in speedometer error ) though I'm sure Bob will disagree.

Anyway, Labor Day weekend is not a good time to test that theory ( the law enforcement to civilian ratio, and number of pulled over vehicles was as high as I've ever seen it ), but may be some day...

much jealousy over here on this end

myself, I've taken another incremental step towards emulating the flashmobile - Porterfield brake pads !

fun fun

dan - no worries - one thing i have noticed with the new suspension is that i finally corssed that line that requires buttometer recalibration - wiht the stiffer rear springs, the car squats a lot less - this tends to give you a different perception of how fast the car is going - with the soft suspension, the car "felt" faster, because it would squat down on throttle - now, it just goes - very deceiving

but, i will find a place to test the top speed somewhere - being a cab, i have an uphill battle though - should have all that resolved though when i get the underside of the car done

sean - are they in yet? did you break them in yet? what do you think?

Not yet, I have new solid rotors from Paragon. . . the plan is to put it all on Sunday, then do a break-in per instructions from the other thread. . .

so the fronts will be new discs and PF pads, the rears existing discs and PBR organics.

keep you posted!
