Very cheep tops and boot covers!
#1

I need a boot-cover to protect my brand new top. The shop that did my top says that a cobalt blue boot-cover would be about $750 from the same people that made my top.

I found this guy on ebay that is selling tops and boot-covers for amazing pricess. He had a blue boot-cover for sale for $350.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...mMakeTrack=true

He has tops for sale for only $450 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> (add lots of labor cost to getting the top installed though.) and he does tops for other kinds of cars. He claims to use German canvas, and the ebay feedback on him is very positive.

Can this be for real? I mean I would *like* to have a cobalt blue boot-cover, but blue would work pretty well too.

Anyway I would like opinions, and I though some of you who have cabs might know of him.

i don't know where you're getting your prices, but if you call the original manufacturer of the original top for this car (Robbins) i'm pretty sure you can do a LOT better than 750

Thanks for the heads-up Bob,

I did a google search to find “Robbins Auto Top Company” and a distributor for them. It seams that they make they 968 top, but not the boot-cover. At least I can’t find it in their parts lists, and they have boot covers for other models.

So I did a bit more googling and I found

GPR Auto Tops:

968 Cabriolet Boot Cover: $459.00, $492.00, $584.00 depending on fabric.

(I also noticed that just above the 968 boot cover they listed a 993 boot cover for $750 for German weave fabric. Maybe the shop looked at the wrong price? I intend to call them tomorrow.)

Cabrio World has the boot cover for $354 for Sonnendecke (a brand name?) or $423 for German Canvas. They include blue as a color choice.

Tops Online has it for $350, $375, and $450 and they have Dark Blue.

In all cases, the most expensive covers were the German Canvas material. If the stuff being sold on ebay is really German canvas (as the ad says) then $350 still seems like a good deal.

In anycase, I am calling the shop tomorrow to question the price. Maybe I can still get a cobalt blue cover to match my top and interior better at a good price….

the OEM top made by Robbins is made of Sonnenland german canvas made by Rode & Schwalenberg, a subsidiary of Haartz

they do indeed not list the boot cover - i will contact ASC and see if i can find out who originally supplied that item and what it is made of

The top and boot cover for the Devil came from Cabrio World. I got the Sonnedeck material in Blue: very nice quality, and the price was excellent.
