Transport Companies
#1

Need recommendations from the group on transport companies. I'm in the midst of purchasing the very nice black/black M030 coupe from John Wade in another thread. I've read some mixed reviews of Intercity by some folks, wondering if they are a company to avoid, and also some alternatives. So who has used one lately, who did you use, what were the costs, and were you happy with the service?

Glad to finally be back amongst the 968 crowd. I've regretted selling my Riviera Blue Club Sport to Rich Tillotson starting approx 15 mins after the transporter pulled away from my driveway.

Intercity is expensive but everyone raves about their service over at 6 speed and they are transporting some very high end exotics. You might wantto consider DAS Autoshippers. They are the biggest and their pricing seems to be affordable plus they have the trucks that have the roll up sides so your car is not exposed to the elements like an open transport. Also they have a auto tracking device on their trucks so you can track your vehicle via their website. You can always find a cheaper company to do the haul but you are going to get what you pay for.

I have shipped through a number of people, but my reccomendations would be DAS, Intercity, or Gold Rush. DAS is good, but they use open trailors with sides. Intercity and Gold Rush only use enclosed trailors. I have shipped F40's, Carrera GT, GT40, 10k mile E30 M3, and all of our Porsches that go back and forth from RPM through Gold Rush. Always on time, always in communication. If your budgetless, I have access to a 'personal' transporter. He only transports one car at a time, or two if you have two that need shipping as his trailer is big enough. Direct, fast, but expensive.

I have also used a few generic companies, Florida Direct, American Auto Shippers, and a few more. My 325is came from California with perfect paint, maybe a week old. When it arrived it had hail damage, scratches, smoking smell, and the driver ripped off the splitter pulling it off. Was about $3500 in damages. I paid for insurance, but they went out of business before my claim was ever filed/issued. Never pressed a lawsuit as I figured if they were out of business, I wouldn't get anything anyways. Stick with the big names. Let me put it to you this way, in all of my experience, you get what you pay for! Also make sure good detailed pictures are taken before transportation if you want to have a chance with insurance companies.

I called Intercity on a Thursday and they picked up my car on Sunday in Florida and had it to me by the following Sunday in Santa Barbara. They thouroughly look over the car before and after pickup and their transports are not only fully enclosed but also fully insured. For a collectible car, the only way to go.

Sbdriving and Apex, would you mind sharing what you were charged by Intercity?

I got a quote from DAS. From Nashville to Boise, enclosed, expedited, I'm looking at $2017 and 18 days. Checking Travelocity, a one way ticket is $190. Looks like I may just fly out and drive it home myself, or rent a Ryder truck and transport trailer and drag it home.

sounds like a lot of time for 'expedited'. I got mine in less than that without expedited.

I think expedited in this case means what you said, flying out there and driving her back yourself. The preferred way to do it, no doubt. I just couldn't get the time off work otherwise. . .

Fully enclosed and fully insured from Orlando to Santa Barbara door to door was $1850. Took a little over a week from first call to getting the car.

I had good service with Intercity from NY to Seattle. I think it was 1600 but it was a few years ago. My only complaint was that they were slow to make the pickup.

I would drive the car, make a summer road trip out of it.
