Switching to 18s
#1

Purchased a set of twists and ready to fit them with some Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs

Front: 7.5JX18, offset: 50mm. Porsche PN# 993.362.134.06. Tire size: 225/40/18.
Rear: 9JX18, offset: 52mm. Porsche PN# 993.362.138.01. Tire size: 265/40/18.

I would like to go 40 instead of 35 to add a little more cushion as I've heard the ride on 18s can be a little harsh. Does anyone for see any issues with rubbing? I believe I can also go 275.

i would check into the outside diameter of the rears - oddly tire rack does not list that one, but based on the one size narrower, and the one size wider, i would guess it is 26.3 - 26.4 - based on that you will lose acceleration due to the increase in effective gear ratio, as well as from the extra weight - you might also throw off your speedometer - your ABS might also stop working - there is a maximum acceptable diameter differential between front and rear diameters

but to answer the original question, i don't think they will rub in the front - the rear is a different story - they might

i went from 285-30-18 to 275-35-18 , I miss the fat rubber on the back but the 275s do ride smoother if the 275-35 will fit
with that offset it might be something to consider.

Carefull in the city David, I had 3 or 4 flats in couple months of each other in B-more.

Although, I had 285/30's. Never had a problem with the fronts.

I would try and get the most sidewall you can.

It would be nice if we did not have so many different 'wheel pics/posts' make searching easier...

No rubbing except on hard bounce when making sharp turn at front.

No rubbing rear at all.

ride is fine...this is a sports car.

yeah - i have been moving all of the wheel pics into the "wheels" section, and tire threads into the "tires" section though, s if you just go to those sections, it is a lot easier

eventually there will be a single thread with shots of each type of wheel, sort of like a display

After a lot of tire rack reading. I back to going with 275 35. The car should behave more natrual with that set up seeing that the diameter is the same.

Not surprised about the flats. Coming down Russel is like driving on a safari these days, and back near the greyhound station.. Better get a H2

I'm going 35/265 instead of 275 do to weight. I know it only adds a little but I figure whats that little bit of rubber going to do for me when Im already packing a 265 width and my driving is purely recreational.

car should look great. Porsche Technology wheels look really good. You may want to lower the rear ride hieght 3/4" adjusting the eccentric bolt. With 18" wheels, the car sits a lot nicer when lowered.

My twists are

8X18-52MM Front
10X18-65MM Rear

Was running 225/40 18 & 285/30 18 Tires, now i'm running 225/40 18 & 265/35 18. No rubbing front or back with either set of tires. Car is lowered 1" up front & .75" in the rear.

with a 52MM offset in the rear, i'm not sure if you will rub or not.

For ref. The OEM 18" 968 Wheels are.

8X18-52MM Front
10X18-61MM Rear

235/40 18 & 265/35 18 Tires

52ET rear might rub on the outside - it will depend a lot on camber angle, measured width of tire, corner profile, spring rate, sway bar stiffness, etc (all tires are not created equal)

i have a 52ET on my 10" rears with a 285/30/18 S0-3 on them - they do not rub - however, i also have a good deal of negative camber due to the lowering of the car (still trying to eliminate some of that), stiffer rear springs, stiffer shocks and a really big rear sway bar - all of these limit the amount of travel and tire position change - there is VERY little room for any change - a 35 series tire in the same size would rub - lowering the car more would rub - decreasing camber much would rub - getting the idea?

you won't really know until you fit it and then swing it around a hard corner

here is a really old picture of my car. 18" twists, lowered 1"/.75" f/r, with my older tires. 225/40 & 285/30.

My twists are hollow spokes that were optional on narrow body 993's.
