WOW!!!

Typical Japanese perfection in model building <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Did notice one thing though, he painted the white on the rear taillights <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

About the model

Because as for this kit, the refractor inside the headlight has not been reproduced, the original work it tried doing the refractor with heat press. Heating 1 mm thick board, pushing to the part where the airbrush rear end is round, it forms. It is painted with the color SM06 chrome silver.

The front and being to be the type which the side and the rear quarter with one body install from inside it does, the window part, but because those where the rear quarter window extends far back from the body became matter of concern, separating, in order to be packed from outside, it processed the rear quarter section, assured flush surface conversion.

The front bumper shaving a little, changed form. The key cylinder of the rear gate is the insect pin. As for body color according to appointment of assembly instruction manual, Being the 3rd lead-lead and something which adds the 8th silver a little in the color 5th blue, it does.

very cool - but....

tail lights definiely wrong for here - not only the white, but all the colors - they look like 944 lights

also, the headlights are sunken, as if they grabbed them from a 928

i have both the standard and club sport hasegawa models and i have yet to find time to build either

Jeez, guys! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm sure this modeler thought he was going the right thing by the tail-lamps. 968 lamps are kind of unusual, and perhaps he thought he was correcting an error. Maybe Japanese tail-lamps are different: other elements in the Japanese cars are.

The headlights on a Hasegawa 968 look sunken: unless one were to modify the model in some way that's how they'll come out.

Having built one of these things, my hat's off to this guy, who did a wonderful job with paint and most details on his model. Plus he gave you guys a bunch of stuff to pick apart for a few days! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

i'm not taking away from the guy's skills - overall it looks good, and probably better than what i can do (which is why they still sit in the boxes) - i just noticed a couple of things that were amiss - notice i did say "for here" on the taillights - as for the headlights, i haven't built mine yet, so i am now quite bummed that they too will be sunken

i have a small metal cab that has no wing windows too - no big deal - just differences

they are all still cool to have

Both the standard kit and the Club Sport version turn up on e-bay occasionally. There not inexpensive, either. I have seen a couple go for more that $40.00.

I recently picked up at old 1/12th scale Tamiya Porsche 910 Carrera hit for $60.00, it had a water damaged box but the kit is complete, so bargains can be found if your patient. The 910 kit usualy sells for $100.00 or more.

There are usually about 20-30 of them on eBay at any given time, granted most of them are the minichamps 1:43 version and they never have a mid blue cab. Amazing how many purple ones I see up there.

Hey, for what it's worth....I recently bought three 1:43 models of 968 cabriolets on eBay, all say they are 1993 models. They're each from different manufacturers, and I was curious to see the differences. They were between $3 and $13; two came from UK and one from Thailand, and they came very quickly (within a week or two). Funny, they do look incredibly similar. I ordered them in silver; they all have a black interior. I did see plenty of purple and some red models on eBay. The three companies are ED - Edison Giocattoli (Italy), High Speed (China), and Minichamps (Germany). I heard somewhere that Minichamps is the one most tied to Porsche. It came in a display box with "1 of 1,728 pcs" written on the base. The Minichamps had a smaller number of silver models produced than the purple or red, per another website I found. The Italian one didn't come with a plastic box over the car and base as the other two did.

I expected that Minichamps would be really detailed and very accurate, but funny enough, it has a mystery side bumper guard on the door that extends onto front and rear fenders, which I've never seen on any year model of the 968, US or Europe. Side mirrors are accurate on Minichamps, but not on the other two brands. Only the Minichamps has a Porsche logo (or attempt at one) on the wheel centers; the others are blank. All have European side turn lights and front lights. Tail and head lights look best on the Minichamps. Other minor differences on the interiors. The Minichamps does look like the better quality, but having that side door guard makes it seem less accurate overall than the others.

Funny, I did see a website that sells the Minichamps 1:43 model in silver, red, and purple colors, but they wanted $25.99 for them.

Ok, so now you know how really AR I am.....

Cheers,

Kathy

I'm more into diecast 1:18 or 1:12 scale. I've exhausted all of my resources and it appears that the 968 was never made in either of these scales. so I'm forced to get the 1:43 by mini champs which will totally throw of my display cases.

For great detail work take a look at the Kyosho and Auto art. Amazing both inside & out.

slightly o/t

but speaking of model car collecters. A friend of the family collects DINKY toys. 1:43 scale cars to be exact. last estimate was over 5000 cars in his collection. Dinky is no longer around, but he also collects another company starting with a C but i cant remember the name. A lot of his cars still sit in their original boxes. although he does have a display room above his three car garage that has both walls and both ends with display cases. filled with cars. Its an amazing site to see some really rare cars in model form.

Try putting the 1:43 model in a vacuum chamber for a while?
