The upgrading has begun
#1

We have begun the upgrading process. We are also migrating our hosting to another company. You can expect the site to go up and down and have a few hiccups over the next couple of days.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and also for not announcing the specific time this process was to begin.

Ah... NOW I understand what happened this afternoon!

I had a "Account has been removed" warning (I think that's what it said), and wondered: "What did I do?"

If this little outage didn't add to our "advocate" base I don't know what will. The bigger the site gets and the more content we store, the more it costs to run. Part of this upgrade is to allow us to store more data and use more bandwidth.

"The account has been suspended" referred to the migration to the new host. There was a minor blip in timing. Obviously, we are not out of business, and the lights are on

Please return to your normally scheduled internet banter...

Regards,

over two years ago we ran out of storage space. we didn't use much bandwidth though, so i made a deal with the then manager to keep up on the plan we were on, as an exchange since our material was fairly static and it didn't hurt them to leave it alone

we then renewed that plan the following year

last year the company changed the plans, dropping our 2gig of storage down to 1 gig. we are at nearly 3 gigs. still i managed to keep the plan in place and renew the plan again

then my guy left the company, and a new guy came in

as a part of the upgrade the new guy discovered the overage and put his foot down about wanting us to either step up to a new plan that cost 12 times as much, or get hosting elsewhere

before i could get new hosting, he suspended the account. i managed to convince him to turn it back on while we complete the transfer

the software upgrade and a transfer to a new server is in process. it will take a couple of days to complete. i am hoping to keep all the content that happens while this is going on, but i just don't know how it will pan out

Well, in the big scheme of things what we rattle on about here isn't really life and death. If something is lost, no big deal. I for one am really glad you're doing this in any form.

yeah - we take heat all the time - it's not uncommon, and sometimes even warranted - we learn from that and improve things

many want to take pot shots, but few want to step and up and contribute anything - it's like the guy who comes to your house for a dinner party, but comes empty handed - bad form - it's not like you expect them to bring anything, but it would be nice if they put forth the gesture

mostly we just see sour grapes over there, and almost nothing of value being contributed - just a bunch of unhappy people moaning and groaning in the corner - definitely no new products or developments of note

no worries - it's fine by us - this site is doing just fine, and there will be lots more added to it soon - we will always strive to keep it current, spam free, and constantly on the cutting edge of all things 968

now - we return you to our regularly scheduled self promotion - roflmao

lol - probably not, but we know where and how to relieve ourselves

everyone can expect to see an "under construction" sort of page soon, while the transfer happens - this may take a full day

then, we will likely to sort through quite a few bumps and hiccups getting it all working again

then we get to upgrade the software, and again sort through bumps and hiccups

in the end, we will have a more stable site, with unlimited bandwidth and storage space - this will open up the ability to have a LOT more video capability and larger photos, as well as the potential for live interactive stuff

stay tuned - it's going to be great!

Well damnit!

I sold all my earthly possessions, quit my job, told my wife and kids I loved them and I would miss them, then sat in my front yard, naked, staring at the sky waiting for the mass ascension to the heavens...

Now I've got mud on my face, quite a few disgruntled neighbors, many children who are scared for life with images of me on my lawn, an invite to a local nudist colony from a rather effeminate older gentleman, and an expensive pending fine and most likely numerous hours of community service from the local po-po and the honorable justice. Oh, and quite a few mosquito bites in places where it is less than proper to scratch during business hours.

Thanks a lot you bastards!! Guess I'll have to double check the next time I think the world is ending...

lol! I have to admit to a few apocalyptic visions myself when I saw the constant of the universe, 968forums, on the blink yesterday. I even went to the "other" 968 forums for signs of "victory dances" and other forms of mass gloating. Thankfully, all apears to be well...
