The start of ANOTHER new adventure
#1

At the end of this month we're relocating to San Juan Capistrano.   Bought a house there, selling ours up here .. and entering the last ( venue ) chapter of our lives..   The 968 is being transported there by car carrier , because we're driving the Grand Cherokee and the Maserati  down.   I hope I'll have an opportunity to drive the 968 a lot more than I do now ..( which is , pathetically , only a handful of times a year )  .

And here we are,  staring our journey .. Smile

Did you get the extra barrel of gas mod, strapped to the hood, from Design 1 Racing?

hehehehe

Having recently moved, good luck.   Moving is a royal PITA!

Yup, that’s a D1R mod, lol.   On a related note , Bob’s ( “ flash “ ) house is less than a two minute drive from our new house.  Can walk there .   I’m not kidding .

Yes, we will never move again, it’s an ordeal .PITA is an understatement.   478 boxes which took a couple of hours a day and most weekends for three whole months , and that does not include any of our furniture..  And then the unpacking “ fun “ starts .. Sad

Congrats on the move. Are you retiring? I started driving mine again after a long layoff. Such a visceral feel. Don’t strain your back!

I’ll retire probably by year end ..or very soon thereafter.   Alena has already retired a year and half ago .

,As you know we moved to Oregon in 2019 and then back to California in 2021. Twice in three years time and most definitely not recommended. We are still parting company with a lot of stuff that turns out we didn't need.

Love Santa Rosa, beautiful weather, proximity to some truly stellar wine making, lots of great roads to drive in the more rural parts of Sonoma County. And

I have a vegetable garden that is booming. It is not for no reason that Luther Burbank chose Santa Rosa for his horticultural research.

San Juan Capistrano is a lovely place. Best of luck to you with the move.

I can't imagine moving at this point. I have so much stuff.... I just moved my mom out of assisted living into long term care and that was enough fun for now, I was pretty much forced into retirement by Covid so I know about that. Drove the 968 today, but it has been a while. Need to drive more but it has been so hot and humid lately.

Best of luck to all those changing locations and lifestyles. Truly a PITA....

Why the move away from the Bay Area?  To move closer to family perhaps?

No, no family there . For that matter not much family up here either ; only our son, but he's planning to move out of state fairly soon anyway, so just a couple of friends we're leaving behind up in this area,  but double the number of friends are down there.  Interestingly enough, the majority of them were long term Bay Area residents who moved south  at some point or another during the 40+ years we lived here.   Besides , we always liked SoCal and have been contemplating this move for the last five + years, regardless of friends' locations..it just so happens, and fortunate that many will be fairly close to our new region so that's a huge bonus, but not the main driver for the move.

Going into the 20th month of my GFN (Great F. N. G. nightmare) the end appears to be in sight. Notice the word appears. Nothing is as it seems in this world. The floor was incredibly damaged as previously reported. It’s been done twice and while I’m not satisfied, it’s a garage floor and I give up. They of course didn’t account for the two drains and the sides have too much flake which prevents grates from sitting properly. This needs repair. Allegedly the lights are being installed today. Six banks of two led lights apiece running in  parallel lines  for a total of 24 lights on the ceiling. The soffits will have four inset lights a piece. Garage door needs to be wired. Lifting a double door which is insulated is heavy lifting. The single door is easy. The lift is supposed to be installed at the end of the month. All the cabinetry which has sat on a pallet at Loews for 14 months needs to get picked up built and hung. Tire racks need to be hung.  Stereo, tv and speakers need to be done on both floors. The upstairs has been done for a year. Looks nice. Furniture was a nightmare but it’s in. Two fire extinguishers will be hung downstairs. Which I had them but. Soon. Life goes on.

I will be curious as to how you like life in the OC. I grew up in SD did grad school at UCI; I know the area well. It can have its challenges. Most of my old friends and colleagues in the area can't wait to retire and move out.

I spent quite a bit of time in OC also, but visiting anywhere no matter how frequently and living there is entirely different.   Time will tell I suppose , but I love pretty much everything about this region, and with very few exceptions ( eastern-northern part of OC which is still fine, but not as appealing as the rest ..) I think it will suit us very well .   But we’ll see if our instincts and experiences as visitors were right,  in due time,,

Yesterday the garage doors were set up to move by remote. While this seems like a small step, imagine manually raising a two bay door. Then imagine using a rope to pull it down after you get out of your car and enter a door to get inside the garage. Seems like nothing but the sense that it’s almost back was so much more evident.

Yesterday the new lift was installed. Somehow when I ordered it, asking for the same lift I had purchased before with the same HD 9 designation wasn’t sufficient to get what I asked for. A bigger lift came. The floor was a problem because of the previously reported issues. Nevertheless the technicians spent all day her and figured out a way to get it in. However now I need to figure out how to hide the compressor electric cord and hose to the lift. Despite this new issue I have a working lift. I keep looking forward and don’t dwell too much on the continuing annoyances.
