i'm bummed - they should have been allowed to keep it a secret - that was what made it cool - now it will be lame

i guess they will have to use a different guy in each episode now if they want to keep the mystique alive

Bummer.
Using a different driver kind of busts the concept. Having the same driver gives a consistent baseline.

Hopefully, they will kill off the white stig.

But then they have used up all the non-colours as they have already had a black Stig. Geeze I hope we don't get a "rainbow" Stig
It's disheartening to see commercialism ruining yet another enjoyable fantasy, yes Virginia, there is no Stig.

Top Gear is my favourite show. If they went through with an american version of the show my top three host would have been Jay Leno, Danica Patrick and Jerry Seinfeld. I would cast Tanner Foust or Paul Tracy as the Stig.

Sorry, you lost me after Danica Patrick
I have been glues to TG for 15 seasons and have dutifully archived them on DVD. I don't think you can ever replicate the British humour for an American audience. I can't see 3 Yanks going to Swindon with old MG's and a dead cow on the roof and make it funny The total lack of safety and environmental controls contributes hugely to the show, can't shot cars from a cliff, play conkers or destroy a Vickers tree in North America without some agency/activist chaining themselves to you.
I saw the previews of the American show and just about puked. Read about the first 50 comments on the BBC web site and I feel confident it won't come to light - geeezzz I hope not.

Down here there is an Australian version of TG. I have never heard anyone say it is at all comparable to the UK version. The hosts are pleasant enough but they lack the chemistry and outright talent of the Clarkson et al. There banter seems forced and often just isn't funny. having said that if you go back and look at old UK TGs I don't think they are nearly as good as the last 5 years or so. It takes time to build rapport and get the right formula. Also the budget for Oz TG is much smaller which means less exciting metal and lower production values. UK TG has such great photography and production values and great ideas wonderfully executed.

My favorite episode. Every time I feel bad about my DD I watch this video. "and it kindof shows" Clarkson is great.

LOL I agree with you Dave, I threw Danica Patrick in the mix as a joke. I'm glad the american version never paned out because the orignal is a masterpiece

I have to strongly agree with OZ's comments about photography, the BBC TG team has incredible photography skills and I would be surprised if they didn't have awards strewn all over their cubicles.
